Velocity DeWitt (1900 - 1972)
Velocity, in her day, was a living racing legend. She was a three time WRL Grand Prix winner and a six time WRL champion. Velocity also competed in rally races around the world. In 1930 Velocity married an aviator, K. Harrier Shimura, who was her spotter during rally races. She was a pioneer in the sport of stunt racing, being the engineer who designed the first T-180 model. As stunt racing rapidly grew more popular and T-180s went into mass production, new tracks began popping up. Velocity was a track designer and designed one of the most famous tracks. Thunderhead Raceway. The track opened in 1945. Velocity amassed a vast fortune over the course of her career. On February 14, 1965 Velocity's granddaughter, Trixie, was born. Seven years later, in 1972, Velocity competed in the 71st annual Casa Cristo Classic. A freak sandstorm buried Velocity alive in the Zunibian desert. She was declared dead.

Y'all remember Speed Racer: Super Charged? The bonus featurette that gave info on the tracks, cars, etc.?
It told us that Thunderhead was one of the oldest tracks in Cosmopolis. And that it was designed by racing legend Velocity DeWitt. Velocity's name can be seen on the Casa Cristo fountain; the one that's dedicated to the drivers who died in The Crucible. At some point, Velocity raced in the Casa Cristo Classic and died.
Now what if, Velocity was Trixie's grandmother. Think about that for a minute. Thunderhead means so much to the Racers. It's their local track. Rex took Speed there all the time. It's where Speed turned the car over and where the red socks superstition was born. Rex holds the course record. The Racers have picnics at Thunderhead. That racetrack was designed by Trixie's grandmother.
