i haven’t even told you guys that vell’inae meeting Leona (paladin from the surface who gets injured in a fight with a drow patrol and she and vell’inae get trapped in a cave in & assumed dead. anyways) is functionally the same thing as being a kid & seeing a trans person in public for the first time. it’s the “wait, this is real? you can do that?” of it all. the realizing you’re not uniquely broken, there’s a whole world of people like you. i love you my transgender allegory
and like the thing with the brother (i’ll name him someday. too sleepy) is that vell’inae tried soooo hard to fix him. like they latched on so hard to the idea of “i can’t fix the world but i can fix One Thing.” they tried to help him see what they had seen — a world where none of this was necessary, a world outside of the spider queen and her demands. and he just couldn’t see it. wouldn’t see it, and it killed him!! and everyone wonders why vell’inae has a savior complex now it’s because now that they Can save people they feel like they need to!!

for 6: not easily at all! They're a paladin (oath of devotion), and they were raised in a drow city in the underdark--for those who don't know a lot of d&d lore the vast majority of drow worship an evil goddess called Lolth and are. like. comically evil and conniving and backstabbing. Anyways Vellinae has a very strong moral compass and pretty much always has and when they were younger they had to act against it a lot of the time for their own safety, bc doing evil shit was the only way they could survive. I have this idea I've been working on in my mind palace where they like. learned about paladin oaths somehow as a child and "took an oath" (that didn't give them any powers or anything) while they were still a kid and that their oath kind of grew & changed with them until they left the underdark and could become a paladin for real, and it went from being something secret and shameful that they had to hide to the thing they valued most about themself (childhood transgenderism metaphor i See you). So to actually answer the question: they could Not be convinced. Ever
14: They want to be an ideal & someone to look up to. They never had any sort of role model, and so they really care about being that for other people. Within the context of the game, they want to be seen as a perfect leader, someone who doesn't doubt themself and makes all the right decisions; they're in a dangerous situation with a bunch of strangers, and since they're the de facto leader, they figure it's their responsibility to be perfect. In Vellinae's mind, they *can* carry everyone else's problems and protect everybody, which means they're morally obligated to do so--they promised to be a protector when they took their oath, and if that means carrying the world on their shoulders then that's what they'll do, because nobody else can. Their oath is what keeps them going and it's what saved their life as a kid, but the idea of it can make them push themself too hard in pursuit of perfection.

doing my vell'inae playthrough 2 and god it's so funny playing a character who's Nice... all the other characters I've gotten meaningfully into the game with are varying levels of mean so getting to pick the Nice dialogue options is such a treat lol

starting a brand new vell'inae playthrough <3 genuinely spent an hour in character creation bc their hair mod got split into 3 mods and i couldn't find their bangs but we stay winning
