Velimalai Pumped storage projects bid schedule moves to July
Pumped storage projects procurement in Tamil Nadu has seen another timeline reset with TNGECL extending the bid schedule for the 1000 MW/6000 MWh Velimalai Pumped Storage Hydro-Electric Project. The project is located in Kanyakumari district and is being tendered through the Chief Engineer, Hydro.
The procurement model remains PPP on BOOT basis under Ministry of Power TBCB Guidelines. The available corrigenda show schedule changes only. They do not change the project configuration, PPP route, commercial framework or tender conditions.
Corrigendum No. 9 moved the bid submission deadline from 19 May 2026 to 15 June 2026. Bid opening moved from 20 May to 16 June. Corrigendum No. 10 then extended bid submission to 9 July 2026 and bid opening to 10 July 2026. EnergylineIndia.com records this as important for Power sector reforms because large storage assets require strong developer, lender and technical-partner alignment. Pumped storage projects are capital-intensive and preparation-heavy. Pumped storage projects also compete with BESS Projects in long-duration grid-balancing discussions. Pumped storage projects extensions may support wider participation. Pumped storage projects pricing is not yet visible.
