REAL LIFE.

jaewon was the perfect example of a middle child. his older sister was the trouble maker, his younger sister was the goody goody and he, well, there was absolutely nothing special about him. he just sort of floated somewhere in the middle, doing well, but not well enough, but also never slacking off. his parents had nothing to complain about when it came to jaewon and to him it sometimes felt like they found nothing to praise either.

life at home was good, his father owned a little cafe in busan, whilst his mother worked as an accountant. money was no struggle, they lived comfortably in their little house. they were the type of family to play card games together on sunday nights. thinking back to this blissful time often made his heart ache, for so much of the innocence of his childhood had been lost.

TW: CAR ACCIDENT, DEATH MENTION. when jaewon was 13 years old the family had decided to take a weekend trip away from the city to where his aunt lived. however, they never made it there. jae had fallen asleep in the car, and so he never quite knew what happened until it was too late. a car went hurling out of it’s lane and hit them directly. his father whom had been driving had made one last attempt to save the family by changing the direction of the car. but it was too late, they ran off the road. first, it was screams and then there was nothing but jae’s heavy breathing and his mother’s wincing as she did her best to get to him.

once they reached the hospital, she had already passed away along with his father and siblings. he blamed himself for having fallen asleep, he blamed himself for not having seen what caused his family’s death. and he hated himself for it. people kept telling him that it was better that way, then he could remember them for the life they had led before the accident rather than their last panicked moments. but these words of comfort never did comfort him, for their battered corpses followed him into his dreams.

he never slept well after that night. he’d wake up bathing in sweat every night, taking long midnight walks instead of attempting to fall back asleep just yet.

his uncle who also lived in busan took him in. at first he had been reluctant as he believed that he was no family man, but then caved as his aunt yelled at his uncle saying they couldn’t take away all that was familiar to jaewon and move him away from busan. and so he continued to work hard, suddenly missing being the child no one spoke about. instead he became that ORPHANED ONE that everyone seemed to know about. it was a heavy weight to bare, but he did his best to smile through it.

he did his best to live a life in a way that would make his parents PROUD. jae finished school and began to work as a waiter in a restaurant his mother used to always buy sunday dinners from. the income was not much, but it was enough to afford to move out from his uncle and into a little apartment of his own.

and then velia came out.

IN GAME.

jaewon logged into velia with the username icarus. he chose to be a mystic. he thought it would be awesome to play together with other people and have their back within the game (perhaps that was his guilt talking again). when he realized logging out was not an option, he began to panic. he didn’t want the rest of his life to be in this game.

then people began to die, and it was like he was losing his family all over again. for in the first few months he had made a couple of friends. they attempted to attack one of the monsters in the world when it became clear that they were not winning the battle, the two friends he made had already pixelated away and a stranger stepped in and saved him. he hadn’t forgotten the strangers kindness, and once more guilt plagued him. he began to feel like people just kept dying around him. like he was the cause, and not even him being a mystic could save them.

so, he did his best to level up. he did his best to become useful in the game. and ultimately chose to join unity. he wanted everyone to be able to survive together, he wanted everyone to come out of this happy to reunite with their families. and soon became a healer for the guild.

along the way he got a pet lizard called toothless, whom he treasures dearly. and the best part SHE COULD BE REVIVED. meaning that this being would not leave him, toothless couldn’t die forever, she couldn’t just pixelate away and that gave him comfort.

SIDENOTE: he doesn’t speak about his life outside of the game, people who don’t know him outside of the game wouldn’t know about his life !!! unless we plotted that he shared that bUT THats a high level of trust.

WANTED CONNECTIONS.

someone whom has adopted him (jkjk just keeps an eye out for him bec he is a baby)

skinny love (two people dancing around affection for one another because they don’t know how to go about it - LOTS OF AWK MOMENTS)

someone from outside of his guild whom he has a soft spot for and often heals.

they hate each other because of some misunderstanding (probably something super petty)

someone he was good friends with outside of the game (they would have had to know each other from busan, south korea).

someone he low key be-mothers even tho he is the baby generally.

someone who’s actions he defends because he thinks there is good in every one.

someone whom he may have saved in the past buT they don’t talk about that because the other is too proud to admit it.

someone that he owes his life to in the early stages of the game.

someone who recruited him for unity.

someone who tries to push his buttons on purpose to see if he can actually get angry (no one is that nice and they don’t believe he is).

a bad influence on him, trying to get him to live a little !

midnight acquaintances (someone whom also doesn’t sleep well all the time they could share midnight walks and snacks etc. looking at the stars etc.)

BEFORE VELIA!

after months of lab tests, PET scans, and being prodded by needles, his oncologist’s pessimistic prognosis of 3 years used to keep him up at night, wondering “why me?” soon enough, he came to find peace with knowing when/how it was going to end. 

it was hard being peaceful when his folks were always crying about it and trying to push all these experimental treatments they couldn’t afford onto him. his joke to his girlfriend about bringing a tinder date to his funeral did not go over well.

velia was gifted to easy by his parents to make it easier going through the grueling treatment process. though he really wasn’t interested in video games in the slightest, he didn’t want to turn down the gift, so he decided to use it just once in front of them to appease them on opening day and then give it to some kid in the pediatric ward.

 the real last conversation he remembers having in the out there in the world before tapping into the game was him responding to his sister’s “good luck” with “don’t worry, my bad luck’s run out” with a wink.

of course, he didn’t know he’d traumatize his family further by getting stuck in a video game that could kill him before their very eyes. 

oops. 

AFTER VELIA! 

harsh albarn easy knows damn well he’s probably never making it out of this game. and guess what? surprisingly, he’s a-okay with it.

he looks like himself in-game, feels like old self himself in-game. not the lethargic, pained, sick harsh left behind in boulder, colorado.

he was completely okay knowing he had a max of three years and kept tallies of the days on his wall to know when his time was up. the day he got past 1095 tallies, his cackling could be heard throughout the floors.

life’s a comedy, ain’t it? 

ABOUT EASY!

literally treats velia as just a game, not this hellhole people are trapped in and are trying to get out of. 

eccentric motherfucker. very colorful in his attire but tones it down for guild-related things. 

charming as hell but would sell you to satan for a corn chip.

life’s mission is to boop @chxticerebus​ on the nose. 

very hard to tell if he’s a good guy or a bad guy? think of him as a chaotic neutral ok. 

you probably shouldn’t 100% trust him. not even the people in his own guild. 

he does whatever benefits him at the moment and doesn’t really believe in strict loyalty to things because he’s here for a good time, not a long time, u feel me? keep him at arm's length if you know what’s good for you. 

joined circus because they were the most aligned in not giving three shits about getting out of the game. doesn’t always wear his mask unless he means business but always has his circus tattoo covered. 

has been hired for contract kills and despite his green cursor, he’s done a couple. his method is to do a kill, hide out and wait it out for a while until he’s back to green. always says “nothing personal!” before he beats you to death.

he’s legit just waiting to die but having a good time in the process because this is the best he’s felt in a long time. he doesn’t fear death and he has nothing to lose, which makes him even more dangerous. 

THE DOWNFALL

jinx used to be a cardinal golden girl. i’m talking top tier player type shit. as a lancer, it was a wonder to see someone of her stature fearlessly charging at the frontline. as an avid gamer, it was no surprise she accepted the challenge of beating the game straight away; all the video games she played that her mom called ‘useless’ finally came in handy. suck it, mom.

when the cardinals got taken down at floor 33, it didn’t bring her down. she missed the camaraderie and strength in numbers that came with a guild and eventually, she found herself with the vixens. things felt right... until half of the guild vanished. suddenly, this stopped feeling like a sheer coincidence. she started to think that maybe she was actually a jinx, bringing bad luck with her wherever she went.

the disbanding of the remaining vixens left her with a bitter taste in her mouth. displeased with joining temporary families, only to have it fall apart and restart the process all over again, she decided she was better off steering away from guilds altogether.

soloing worked well for her until may, when two players ambushed an offguard jinx in an attempt to get a sleep player kill. she barely escaped with her life but the attack impacted her in a way she never would’ve predicted. 

nearly dying sent her over the edge; jinx became paranoid and jumpy about other people coming to attack her. as a result, it triggered an onslaught. jinx would cut down nearby players before they had a chance to get her first. 

she remained in this paranoid state for a week until a friend managed to find her and talk her down from it. by the time she snapped back to reality, it was too late: she’d earned her red cursor. 

jinx isolated herself for a bit, focusing on honing her craft skills and training. there were rumors that she’d actually lost it but in actuality, she just couldn’t bear facing other people with the red cursor over her head as a reminder of what she’d done. 

THE RISING

in july, jinx decided to stop hiding away and resurfaced to the general public to be apart of the world again. sure, she’s marked as a player killer now, but that doesn’t have to be the only thing she’s known for, right?  

of course, some people are very suspicious of her breezy, joking, lighthearted demeanor (especially with that red cursor above her head) and probably think she’s setting them up but honestly, that’s just who she was before all this.

she can often be found going back to floors to help other players who are willing to accept help from a red cursor. it’s kinda like her way to atone but also to make herself useful to others.

 she’s still wary of joining guilds (and isn’t sure that they would accept her anyway).

she just wants to get back to feeling like herself again, dammit. she’s trying to find pieces of herself again and that world where this used to be fun and she wasn’t haunted by her mistakes. she’s getting there slowly! 

MISCELLANEOUS SHIT

her and her dad had a saturday morning ritual of going to the arcade. when he moved out after the divorce, she kept gaming on her own because it made her feel closer to him despite the distance. 

as a joke (which was not a joke at all smh), she told @playervalentine that she would go out with him if he played velia with her. of course, now they’re both stuck in this damn game and she feels so guilty about it that she hasn’t interacted with him since the game started, rip. 

only people who knew her before velia know her name. everyone else knows her as jinx because she needs to keep this in-game life separate from her real life. #fuckyeahcompartmentalizing

doesn’t sleep well (for obvious reasons).

            ⌬ this is my star-shine son dawson, he’s a sweet southern peach and he already loves you. originally, he’s from john’s creek, georgia, so he HAS MOOOONEY, HE GOT MONEY ( his family’s got money )             ⌬ before velia dawson was a grade school teacher, so the whole unity thing wasn’t even a choice really, it just felt like the right thing to do. taking care of the younger players and getting them to adjust was almost second nature, he was good at it. he’s still good at it. the unity orphanages are like a second home. aside from his home on the 25th floor, or his real home, the one out in the real world. so maybe it’s more like a third home ANYWAAAAAYS he’s well known in those parts             ⌬ some other tidbits -- he’s got a mount named donut, she’s a bear             ⌬ his level is 67, don’t think i put that in his sidebar, but i’m gonna, so there.              ⌬ cursor is green ( bc he’s a soft boi that just wants everyone to get along )             ⌬ along with his mount donut, he has a jack russell named peach ( they’re his best girls and he turns into a blubbering mess every. time. they die. )             ⌬ and that’s p much all he’s willing to tell me atm so we’ll figure out the rest later
