The Justice League had barely caught their breath.
In the days following the rooftop incident, Earth had seen a seismic shift in ghost-related politics. With the Ghost Kingâs declaration echoing through both the Realms and Earthâs dimension, the Guys in White found themselves publicly exposed, internationally condemned, andâthanks to the Leagueâs swift actionâsystematically dismantled.
Every black site was raided.
Every illegally detained ghost or hybrid was freed.
And every dirty record connected to the GIWâs shadowy ops was handed over to the UNâs paranormal oversight committee, now assisted by a rather smug Constantine and a very pleased Martian Manhunter.
But amid the diplomacy, legal dismantling, and fallout from Phantomâs appearance, one thing stood out in Daniâs mind:
Even when they didnât know who she was, even when she was just a scared girl in painâthey came.
Back in the Ghost Zone, Dani tapped her foot impatiently as she floated near the central portal hub of the citadel.
âAre you sure this is a good idea?â Danny asked from behind her, arms crossed but not unsupportive. âYou know Batmanâs gonna be suspicious the moment you show up.â
Dani grinned. âSuspicious? Please. Iâm adorable.â
Danny narrowed his eyes. âYou say that like he doesnât carry Kryptonite and a backup plan to take down literal gods.â
âIâm a thank-you card with legs,â she said, puffing her chest with pride. âIâm just gonna pop in, say thanks, and not let Batman scare me into bolting. Easy.â
Danny smiled softly, pride obvious in his glowing eyes. âYouâre really okay?â
She floated backward and tapped her chest. âCoreâs solid. Healed up. Got some wicked scarsâmight glam them up later. But yeah, Iâm okay.â
Danny hesitated. Then leaned forward and kissed the top of her head.
She blinked. âOkay, thatâs new.â
He shrugged, sheepish. âYou called me Daddy. Iâm gonna be annoying about it for a while.â
âYeah, yeahâŚâ she muttered, cheeks red. âAlright, open the portal before I lose my nerve.â

The team was mid-briefing when a soft hum filled the roomâfaintly green, faintly cold. Instantly, Batman and Superman straightened. Wonder Woman reached instinctively for her lasso.
A portal spiraled open just above the conference table.
And Dani floated through, hands up in surrender.
âOkay, okay! Peace! I swear!â
Hal Jordan raised an eyebrow. âOh, itâs the ghost kid. Waitâare you the scary one or the adorable one?â
âDepends on the day,â she said, smirking. âTodayâs adorable, promise.â
Dani touched down lightly on the table, then reached into her jacket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. It shimmered faintly with ecto-energy and bore the Ghost Kingâs seal in soft silver.
âI, Danielle Phantomâheir of the Ghost King and officially Not Screaming Anymoreâjust wanted to say⌠thank you. For trying to help me.â
There was a pause. Diana stepped forward first, her eyes soft.
âWe were too slow,â she said gently.
âYou came,â Dani replied, shrugging. âThatâs what matters. A lot of people donât.â
She handed the letter to Superman, who looked surprised but touched as he took it carefully.
âItâs got King stuff in it too,â she added. âLike, Danny made it all official with thanks from the Realms. I didnât read that part. Itâs got too many fancy words and titles like âDefenders of the Mortal Gateâ or something. But I made sure it also includes drawings of you all as ghosts. In crayon.â
Flash perked up. âWait, me as a ghost?â
âI donât wear a cape!â
Batman stared at her, arms crossed, unreadable.
ââŚYou remind me of someone,â he said at last.
âYikes. That better be a compliment.â
To everyone's shock, Batman gave the barest twitch of a smile.
Dani grinned wider. âWell, I should go. My dadâs waiting and he gets twitchy when Iâm gone too long. Heâs still new to the whole âterrifying ghost father thing.ââ
âI can relate,â Superman muttered.
Dani floated back toward the portal.
Then she paused and looked over her shoulder.
âI hope I never need saving again. But if I do⌠thanks for being the kind of people whoâd show up anyway.â
And with a final flash of light, she was gone.
The room was silent for a moment.
Flash blinked. âSo weâre friends with the Ghost King now, right?â
âMore like allies,â Batman said.
Superman smiled faintly. âAnd weâve got the official ghost crayon drawings to prove it.â
Wonder Woman nodded. âA kingdom of the dead just thanked us. Iâd say thatâs a day well spent.â
