If scratching at roofs of coffins wasn’t enough, the undead within Woodhurst were unlike any of the undead that had ever been written about. These undead beings were not mindless zombies but rather intellectual humans. They could barely be differentiated from the humans. It was causing a great problem for the city of Woodhurst, but they managed to find balance.

Out of the 60% of humans that held the gene to have them become Reanimated, 40% of them were susceptible to gaining Enhancements on top of their reanimation. These Reemies are being highly investigated by the research lab in the city: many of them becoming test subjects for a project that they never even signed up for. Some of them are simply stronger than the average human, others have faster reflexes: it’s impossible to know until it happens to you. Scientists are trying to figure out the burning question of: why and how they could contain it. Whether it was good or bad. These Reemie test-subjects were just the first step in that.

Welcome back to life, Reanimate - we’re so happy that you could join us. There’s just one snag here, though: you happened to wake up in the wrong place.

See, the border was meant to contain the spread of the virus, and by extension, the spread of the reanimates. If all had gone to plan, then the reanimates would have never been seen outside of the town of Woodhurst. It wasn’t a long-term solution, obviously, but the most optimistic hopes saw the virus running its course and disappearing entirely.

Instead, the virus has begun to spread to the small towns that surround Woodhurst. The spread was slower, and only now are the reanimates beginning to appear in these separate places, but it’s happening. One by one, reanimates are appearing, and the lucky ones are detected by Project IN. Those reanimates are brought, as quickly as possible, within the confines of Woodhurst to live out their second chance.

This is a big issue for Project IN, though. With the enormous task of containing and keeping Woodhurst in a sedated state, adding the surrounding towns to the list is not an option. The option of containment is looking less and less like a viable solution, and it falls on the shoulders of the head executives to make the calls. Do they expand the border? Do they give up on it entirely and let the spread of the virus and the Reanimates take its course?

For now, they are patching their sinking ship with as much duct tape as they can, but the holes keep growing wider, day by day.

The teams of staff that retrieve the reanimates are the only ones that are allowed to leave the confines of the border, and they must do so wearing protective gear, so they don’t infect the surrounding areas any more. The transport is still being perfected, but for now, armoured trucks and sterile environments are used as much as possible.

Once back in Woodhurst, these relocated Reanimates have an even more difficult time than the locals. They return to their lives, but are told that they can never leave a town which they have no connections to.

For the local humans, these Reanimates are even more worry-inducing than the local ones, as they appear within the city walls with no background and no connections to work from. For now, they have been put up by Project IN in a hotel on the edge of town, but as their numbers and fears grow, this is looking to be less and less like something that can continue as is.

Containment Team: The only field team in Project IN. They must wear protective gear and make regular trips outside the border to check for and retrieve outside Reanimates. These staff members must undergo extreme background checks and must be trusted beyond regular staff, as they are allowed outside the border. If one goes missing or decides to share sensitive information, the entire house of cards could come crashing down. [0/6]

When you’re first told about an organisation that seeks to help the newly reanimated get back on their feet after their time away, you seize the opportunity to find people who understand the unique struggles you now go through every day. The scientists make you wary with their testing, the ID bracelet you must wear feels oppressive, and the world feels much more lonelier than when you left it.

They make you feel welcome. And they agree with you, you shouldn’t have to wear the bracelet and it’s not right that you’re just another specimen for a group of scientists who don’t see you as a person. You fall in deeper and deeper as you hang on to every word this group has to say, and before you even realised there’s no escape anymore.

The warm smiles turn into smirks, the warmth in their eyes turns cold. You learn the truth. And because it’s too late, you still agree with everything they say.

Orchestrated by a man who was a fraud in life, a disgrace in death, and clouded by his own delusions in his reanimation, you think you see the truth. The reanimated were not just given a chance by a virus, as the scientists want you to believe, but each and every one of you have a higher purpose you’re told.

You’ve been given a second chance and you believe that the scientists working to “solve the problem” and “find a cure” see a cure as nothing more than your own elimination, when you were brought back for a purpose beyond their experiments and testing. The world must know, but the government, the scientists and the military are all working against you. And they must be stopped, through any means.

An old friend has become reanimated — you hadn’t even realised they’d died, maybe it had happened while you were gone — and you tell them about a group that helps new reanimates find their feet again.

“That sounds like a cult!” your friend jokes.

“Definitely not. They helped me, and they’ll be able to help you too”

[0/∞] - Newly recruited (Both human or reanimated, for now they only see the face of the organisation, a group wanting to help the ever growing numbers of new reanimates find their place in the world again. Some may be beginning to sense not all is what it seems, but some may be falling deeper and deeper, obliviously).

It was not long after the border walls were erected that people started to realize something: they might never be able to leave.  With the virus contaminating the groundwater, the chances were incredibly high that even those who might not seem to be infected, those who do not hold the gene, could be carrying the disease. These loyal civil servants were given the duty of watching the town borders: they are not to let anyone in or out, and they are given strict instructions to shoot on sight. They can not let those who are infected out, and they can’t let those who are clean in.

The realization that they were never going to be able to leave came at the wrong time, with tension high already among those who are reanimated and enhanced, many of these noble soldiers are simply humans with no choice but to serve their country or risk being arrested for treason. Many with family and loved ones on the other side of the wall, they have to come to terms with the fact that the rest of their life will be contained between the confines of Woodhurst. No way to tell those who don’t already know of the happenings behind the gates of the secret city, no way to leave. They were trapped, alone. Forever. The members of the Canadian Armed Forces that were assigned to post at the gates of Woodhurst know now, the truth of the matter - and not all of them are very pleased with it. It creates animosity towards those that they are sworn to protect. Some will never see their children again, others have to come to terms with the fact that they have become Enhanced. Some, even fear what is going to happen to them if they die and become a reanimated. Each member has their own take on things: but they all have one thing in common. They are all sworn to duty until the end of their days.

Sergeant: [0/1] - The current commanding officer of the R22R (Royal 22nd Regiment). Currently in charge of all base operations within the city. 35+

Commanding Officers [2/3] - Each CO is in charge of a group of Soldiers. They report directly to the Sergeant but they are in control of schedules, training and general operations. 25+

Soldiers [0/∞] - Soldiers are front line defense, on the patrols all day and night rotating long 2 hour shifts walking to borders of the wall to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. 18+

Welcome back to your life, Reanimate. It may not be entirely how you left it, but this is how it is now, whether you like it or not. A second lease, if you will. Your transition is helped as much as possible, but there is only so much that a group of doctors and scientists can do. You’ve been dead for months, or even years, and there’s no replacing the time lost.

You, do, however, have the future to look forward to. The new life that you can carve from the remnants of your former one.

...or do you?

A few reanimates have come forward with complaints of feeling ill, or as if their bodies are giving out on them. At first, it was chalked up to being all in their heads - an after effect of the virus that had caused them to wake up in the first place. So, they were sent to their support workers for extra meetings.

Then it happened. Necrosis of the skin, or in layman’s terms, death of the skin. The reanimate in question was dying all over again. The first one was rushed to the lab and immediately contained, and the others displaying symptoms were quarantined further than the rest of the town already was. But what was causing this second round of punishment? And why were only a few reanimates experiencing it?

A specific division of the project was created to specifically study the effects of this outbreak, Mors Secunda. Titled Project Letifer, the scientists now work exclusively to solve this problem, though their motives may also be in question. Are they trying to cure this disease, or are they trying to cure the Reanimates of their reanimation? Are they simply trying to spread this disease forward while saving face? Reanimates must get involved at their own risk.

We’re so happy to announce our THIRD subplot! This centres around a subgroup of scientists working to solve the problems that certain Reanimates are experiencing. Below are the available roles – if you’re interested in taking one of the positions with a limited number of roles, send us an ask in the same way you would reserve a face claim!
