In the spring/ early summer of 2015 I had just quit my job and was waiting to go to grad school in the fall. I had recently made a huge life change the year before and had a summer full of anxiety and mild depression ahead of me. That’s when I started to watch a show my parents casually watched, Veep.
I had heard about it kinda but didn’t know any of the actors in it. I knew Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Seinfeld, Tony Hale from Arrest Development, and Anna Chlumsky from My Girl, but that was it. So that summer I binged the first 3 seasons and watched the 4th season as it aired. It was funny and I fell in LOVE with Amy and Dan. The humor was spot on and the acting was amazing.
After watching the show at least 3 times I did something I never thought I would. I made a Tumblr sideblog about Veep. I have been on Tumblr since 2010 and have had many fandoms prior (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, etc.) but I never got as involved with those fandoms as I did this one. This show was smaller and I fell in love with the fandom too. Something in me just burst with creativity and wanting to know and talk about my favorite show with other fans, as I didn’t know anyone in my real life that watched it or cared to comment. The fan theories, the callbacks, the jokes, the parallels, and the Amy/Dan angst, I loved it all so much. So I made this blog. And unexpectedly, I made some good friends too. Whatever I feel about the last 3 seasons of the show or the finale...I am glad I met Andrea, Evie, and Pria.
These girls made the show so much more than it was already. So thank you Armando Iannucci for not only making one of the best satirical shows ever made but also for, in a way, connecting me with three other fans who live far across the country from me and who become my friends.
I don’t know how much more I will post on this sideblog now that the show is over. But it will always remain important to me. Thank you to my lil’ group of followers and to anyone who liked or reblogged my posts. Ya’ll are awesome!
Also...I really hope Anna gets her Emmy!
