This year, due to extended lockdowns, both parents and students are stressed over the future even more than usual. This has been an advantage to edutech companies most of which saw a revolutionizing growth in the Indian education sector.

Edutech companies like Byju's have become one of the top edtech companies in the world. The watch time of unacademy videos raised to 1.4 billion minutes.EdTech companies are also hiring more and are investing more in their growth.

But the success of edtech companies in the Indian education sector doesn’t end with these two. There is another start-up Vedantu, a pioneer for live interacting tuition classes. It became a market leader for live classes when witnessed an overwhelmed response of new customers in April 2020.

Yes, it is not much difficult to find another online education start-up that hasn’t followed a similar trajectory as Byju's.

History of Vedantu

It all began in 2006 when Vasmi Krishna founded his first venture in education named “lakshya” with his other three IItian friends, Pulkit Jain, Saurabh Saxena, and Anand Prakash. The purpose of this venture was to train students for a variety of exams. In due time, they realized this platform demands numerous dedicated and skilled teachers. In 2012, a listed company MT Educare (Mahesh Tutorials) acquired “lakshya”. Initially, the founders taught and mentored more than 10,000 students and trained up to 200 teachers for this venture.

Then they began the preparation of an Edtech startup named “Vedantu”. It was officially introduced in 2014.

Watching your younger ones apply themselves in an online class, against their natural instinct to run around, is definitely a moment of heart break for any parent. It is no surprise that #edtech companies, particularly in India, have been the biggest beneficiaries of this pandemic. However, it is ironic that the kids specially in the age group 4-12, find no benefit from this boom of #edtech tools. They continue to be the worst hit.

As per a study by Azim Premji University, the extent and nature of learning loss is serious enough to warrant action at all levels. While the report does not talk about the impact of tech tools or #elearning facilities being used by schools, it is no surprise that the tools have not been of any help.

Let us sincerely hope that our friends from companies like Byju's, Vedantu, Cue Math double down on their efforts & good work to innovate for kids in this age bracket.
