Skills You Need to be A good Logo Designer

1:- Creativity:- Logo designing is an art, as everyone can use paints but few can carve a masterpiece out. That means you need to have good creativity if you want to become a logo designer because in some cases clients only give information regarding their business and graphic designer need to carve out the rest of the details of the logo.

So you need to have a creative mindset, to start in the field of logo designing or graphic designing.

2:- Love doing art:- If you are a person who loves creating a different kind of art and love playing with the tools which are used for graphic designing.

3:- Tools:- You should have sound knowledge of tools

Adobe Photoshop

CorelDraw

Adobe InDesign

4:- Canva:- I always encourage others to try designing their logo in canva, because I love this tool it offers good tools as it is just an online tool. If you are new to this field and want to start your journey use canva.

5:-Practice:- Lastly I can’t stress this enough practice, as you have already heard practice makes a man perfect. Practice with the skill you have learned.

Raster

A pixel is a physical element, a sample of an image. The more pixels, the more quality from the original image. A pixel image it’s a raster. 

Raster-based software: Photoshop, Procreate, GIMP, After Effects and more. 

File formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, RAW, and PSD.

Raster-based software are good for editing photography, when you want complex color gradient and shading, realistic illustrations, any design made for social media. The downside is that raster images aren’t scalable, you can’t change its size after because it will change the size of the pixel and distort it.

Vector

A vector is a mathematically calculated path. Therefore, a vector is a geometric shape, which definition is “geometric shape is the geometric information which remains when location, scale, orientation, and reflection are removed from the description of a geometric object“ (Wikipedia). 

A vector is made out of three elements: 

Points: editable to change the shape of the vector.

Polylines: the line that connects the points. 

Polygons: the form made when the path is closed.

Vectors are a good choice when you want more of a flat design,  since it doesn’t display complex color gradient, texture or shading. It’s good for logos and designs that will be printed.

Vector-based software: Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape and more.

File formats:  PDF, EPS, Ai, SVG (these can also incorporate raster images).

You can create a file combining vector and raster images but only when you won’t be resizing it since the raster image will distort if so. For example, you can’t add a raster image to a logo because it needs to be scalable.

Raster graphics and vector graphics are two different types of digital images. Raster graphics are made up of pixels, which are tiny squares of color that are arranged in a grid to form an image. Vector graphics, on the other hand, are made up of lines and curves that are defined by mathematical equations.

One of the main differences between raster and vector graphics is that raster graphics are resolution-dependent, meaning that the quality of the image can be affected by the resolution at which it is displayed. When a raster graphic is enlarged, the pixels that make up the image become more noticeable, which can make the image appear pixelated or blurry. Vector graphics, on the other hand, are resolution-independent, meaning that they can be scaled up or down without losing quality.

Another difference is that raster graphics are best suited for images with a lot of detail, such as photographs, while vector graphics are better for simple, geometric shapes and lines.

Vector versus raster

So, Before going ahead let us first discuss.

What is a raster?

A raster image is generally lower in resolution and created using pixels. If you zoom in on the image, you will see that the image pixel is breaking.

Basically, in everyday life, we use raster Images Ex Picture we clicked on Mobile Phone is an example of a Raster Image.

On, in layman’s terms picture which has pixels are called a raster image.

As you can see in the above picture one is a raster and one is a vector.

Now, what is Vector?

numerically characterized mathematical shapes that are normally produced utilizing drawing or representation projects like Adobe Illustrator. Vector workmanship is included lines, items, and fills. The characterized shapes are developed from numerical conditions that are put away inside the document. Vector craftsmanship involves both size and heading.

Vector graphics are points, lines, curves, and shapes that are based on mathematical formulas. When you scale a vector image file, it isn’t a low resolution and there’s no loss of quality, so it can be sized to however large or small you need it to be.

This, above image, is an example of a vector image as you can see even after zooming it doesn’t get pixelated because it is a vector file.

Absolutely NO VECTORS! I don’t know if you, dear reader, are super familiar with logo design (or graphic formats, in general), so please allow me to explain a thing (those who ARE familiar, please bear with me).

Short definitions of 2 main graphic file types, raster and vector:

raster - images made up of pixels. if scaled up too much, look like crap. vector - images made up of... well... math. infinitely scalable.

So, a good, usable, adaptable logo will ALWAYS be in vector format. This poor poster obviously has very strong feelings about... something. Something that he thinks is called “vectors.” Probably he means clip art? Or abstraction? Straight lines? I don’t know.

Many clients often come to us for illustrations to meet their technical, marketing, and other various documentation needs. Unless they have an extensive exposure to the graphic and printing industry, many do not understand the difference between vector and raster images, after all that's why they are seeking out the services of a professional graphic designer or illustrator. We’ve decided to write up this brief article to help shed a bit of light on the differences between vector and raster images to better help clients to understand and be able to make more informed decisions for their artwork needs.

Our first task, is to define vector and raster illustrations? The simple answer is a vector illustration is made up interconnected lines and geometric shapes whereas a raster illustration is made from dots or pixels placed in a square grid pattern.

Vector illustrations are created using mathematical formulas and geometric shapes such as polygons, lines, curves, and points. Specialized programs such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw are used to create vector-based illustrations with file formats such as EPS, AI, PDF, and SVG.

If an illustration is not vector-based then it's a raster or bitmap image which uses a dot-matrix structure made from a rectangular grid of pixels or points of color. Raster images are created with programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel PaintShop, or Corel Painter with file formats such as TIF, JPG, GIF, and PNG.

In some applications you cannot tell the difference between a vector and a raster image. Take this smiley face for example. The smiley on the left is a vector based illustration, while the smiley on the right is a raster illustration.

From a distance they both look very similar, however, as the images are magnified the raster image begins to appear slightly out of focus and jagged around the edges. Vector images will maintain a very crisp almost Hi-Def appearance no matter how big they are enlarged.

The final use or destination of the artwork is usually what drives the format used in its creation.

Now let's look at this old Chevy truck.

This illustration will dramatically illustrate the difference between vector and raster images. You will clearly see where the rubber meets the road; pun intended. Using a vector format will allow you to size this image on anything from a postage stamp to a billboard and still retain the crisp, clean, Hi-Def appearance.

If we create a raster image to print on a postage stamp and then want to enlarge it you can see how the image gets very grainy, and you actually see its dot-matrix structure.

Whenever you create images that will be used with multiple applications like technical manuals and then also for advertisement purposes it's easy to see that the vector illustration will consistently provide a more professional appearance.
