Happy #ComingOutDay to all of my beautiful queer and trans friends. One thing I adore about being a performer is that, as a genderfluid person, I can embody characters of different genders and bring my own truths to all of them. Gender and performance are often one and the same for me; I can escape the concept of even having a gender about as seldom as I can escape performing for others. For the next two weekends on Friday and Sunday, I get to transform from a dainty Regency lady in the first act to a ghostly 18th-century baronet in the second. Despite most live theatre not fully opening up until the last part of the year, I had twelve months jam-packed full of roles in 2021. RIP, #GrandDuke #VCGSRC 2020. At least we got one weekend of performances before the virus shut us down, which is more than a lot of productions can say. These photos were taken during tech week, so some of the costumes are not in their final forms and some of the wigs look truly terrible, but it’s what we have. And I’m happy with the way the costumes looked by the time we opened! ✂️🧵 Disclaimer: I didn’t build any new costumes for the show. They were nearly all from stock, a couple rented, and a few were purchased. With a heavy heart I must announce that The Grand Duke has been cancelled at the Hillcrest Center due to coronavirus concerns, and will not be rescheduled. This cast and crew put so much work into this production and I’m glad that we at least got to play for one weekend, but we are all feeling very sorrowful. I loved this part so much, and I wish my friends and family could have seen me perform it. 😔 My heart goes out to all of the other performers and directors who have experienced cancellations. The best we can do is support one another, stay smart and safe, and know that our art will live on no matter what. So much love to all of you.
