Path to Ownership
I’ve recently joined my school’s chapter of the VBA (VBMA for the Americans). Since I’m taking notes on this shit anyway, I thought I might pass on some of the info. This week’s talk was a webinar, given by Jess Trichel DVM, from Live Oak Bank, and focuses on how moving into practice ownership works.

ABOUT DR. HUNTINGFORD:
Dr Janice Huntingford, DVM, DACVSMR, CVA, CVPP, CCRT CAVCA, is a 1984 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario and a Board Certified Specialist (Diplomate) in Canine Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine (DACVSMR), only 1 of 3 in Canada.  She is certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA), in Animal Acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, in Chinese herbal Medicine (Chi Institute) and is a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner.  In 2007, Dr. Huntingford opened Ontario’s first salt water canine therapy pool and canine rehabilitation centre.
Dr. Huntingford lectures nationally and internationally on rehabilitation, acupuncture, geriatric medicine, herbals and pain management to veterinarians and veterinary technicians. She has authored or co-authored several text book chapters on Rehabilitation and published a number of peer reviewed manuscripts. She consults and sits on a number of advisor boards related to herbal medicine, laser therapy and holistic medicine. She teaches regularly at Cornell University and is involved in Resident Training for Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation for Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Huntingford continues to research into the treatment of animal pain. She has published a peer review paper on laser therapy for elbow arthritis and has completed a clinical trial on a unique kidney preparation for aging cats. Her current research is on Agile Joints, a proprietary herbal blend for cats and dogs with osteoarthritis.

The Veterinary Botanical Medicine Association currently offers an annual educational scholarship opportunity, open to veterinary students, in order to promote herbal education. The funding for this scholarship is donated by one of our incredibly generous VBMA members...many thanks for your support! Also included - FREE VBMA membership for 2 years upon graduation.
2019 Requirements:
Why do you want to use Herbs in Your Future Veterinary Practice? Is there an experience that you have personally had with herbs that has engaged your interest? How has herbal medicine influenced your course in veterinary school? Tell us a about yourself and you could win a scholarship to further your herbal education! Spread the word and tell your friends! Â To submit your essay, simply complete the form online HERE, fill out the PDF version or send your information to [email protected] by 7/15/19 for consideration.
Award Amounts, Selection Criteria, Funds Distribution and Essay Publication:
   The amount of scholarship funds awarded each year will total no less than $1000.00
   Essays will be read and award(s) decided by the President and President-Elect of the VBMA.
   Scholarship funds may be distributed to a single winner, or multiple winners, in amounts determined by the  President and President-Elect.
   All award-winning essays will be published on the VBMA website.
   The first-place winning essay will also be published in the Journal of Veterinary Botanical Medicine.
   Announcement of Award:
The winning essay will be announced at the VBMA’s annual meeting at the AHVMA convention of that year.
Use of Award Money:
The recipient of the educational scholarship may use their award money for any AHG (American Herbal Guild) event or class by a RH (AHG), and any CIVT, Chi, IVAS, VBMA or equivalent veterinary herbal class. Alternatively, the funds may be used for the purchase of herbal books, VBMA CDs, teleconference registrations or similar educational events. Note: There is no expiration date for monies awarded so you can use it on future continuing education needs!
