In Bed With Death is a very brooding and intense track by Vastum, a band, while modern, happens to be one of the best to revive the OSDM sound. When I listen to it, it reminds me of Autopsy’s “Mental Funeral” album. There is a very tasteful riff about halfway in (a little past that) that exudes the classic sound of death metal.
Priapic Chasms is the second track on the same album, Inward to Gethsemane. The first riff immediately caught my attention due to its off-set rhythm. P.C, and this goes for the rest of the songs, is a prime example of the OSDM sound.
There is a basic foundation that this album adheres to, yet it doesn’t fail to differ from other DM bands looking to carve their name into the crescent-walled stone that is the OSDM revival. The mixing (being a non technician) is simply prime. The instruments all have their place within these recordings, especially on this song. The solos aren’t too loud, which accentuates the bass alongside the low and mid tones on the track.
Be warned for my slammers—we have chugs!! Within the last few minutes of the song, Vastum knows just what they’re doing; repeating chugs, catchy grooves, and a brutal, looming air of something inhuman— hellish, almost— is what makes Priapic Chasms a staple in my playlist.
If i didn’t have a favorite already, Stillborn Eternity has to be it. In true music lover fashion, I start to compare it to other DM acts, and Cannibal Corpse is what first came to mind. S.E feels fairly upbeat and vivid than the first two tracks due to its similarities with C.C, as their riffs tend to have a strong melody.
A little past halfway, the song kicks into a gear one wouldn’t expect from a song that sunk into a brooding well of disdain full of an echoing atmosphere. If I heard this at a show, I’d hurl myself around!! S.E makes me feel energized, and the solos don’t aid in calming me down. This shit is bombastic I have to get out of character for a second
The 1:41 second interlude, Judas, paces itself with an intense guitar tone. It’s like sitting in the obsidian carriage on your way to hell; a maroon landscape all around you. You finally reach the shadowy gates, and this song is all you hear. it’s so good bro
Indwelling Archon is purely a death-thrash track. The vocals are vaguely pig-squeal-esque, but it ties in with the rest of the song. I can see this song being the “underrated” track that people would skip over—and it’d be a shame on their part. I.A is extremely easy to mosh to in some tavern, and within their small showroom lie people of all ages coming together and nodding their heads. pushing their friends around. For any hardcore fans, around the four minute mark is where you’ll find similar elements. The ending of this song has to be the best part, despite that being a usual insult.
I’ll stop here because i’m running out of positive words to say. THIS ENTIRE ALBUM IS ZERO SKIPS AND IS DEAN-APPROVED

Music is therapeutic, but I think it also disconnects us from reality, and this disconnect might actually be its most therapeutic effect. I don’t think shows or music provide relief from pain so much as they create space for reflection, which in turn creates relief.
