Iris Film Collective is excited to announce member Alex MacKenzie’s film installation for the City of Vancouver's public art series "Platforms: We Are Here, Live".
Alex’s work, “Waiting Room”, will be presented on the VanLive! video screen, at Robson and Granville, from May 2nd through June 5th 2022, screening once an hour at random times all day and night with a dedicated slot at 12 noon.
“Waiting Room” is a material-based film work that speaks to the various states of tension, calm, frustration, apprehension—as well as injustice, inequity and struggle—felt in our respective waiting rooms. 16mm found footage is manipulated using bipacking, processing and digital alteration. The simultaneous banality and stress of waiting undergoes a physical transformation into an active and highly charged materiality informed by our personal projections and desires.
“Platforms: We Are Here, Live” is a series that commissioned 23 Vancouver-based and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) artists grappling with the issues revealed by a still-unfolding global pandemic.
