I think one of my worst fears is finding out one of my friends is in love with me. Because I can, in no way, reciprocate those feelings, and donāt want to have to watch their heart break over someone like me. They donāt deserve it.
I think thatās part of the reason I push people away. Because of this fear, that frankly wouldnāt happen as Iām not at all attractive, but it doesnāt matter. Iām still afraid, of hurting them in a way that is neither of our faults, just a result of the way I was created, to never feel that attraction towards others that so many people have. I can love people, and I do, just not in the way of romance, and that hurts. It hurts because Iāll never know why so many people are obsessed with this feeling of love, to the point of writing songs, poems, and stories all focused solely upon it, almost worshipping it as if it were a god.
Maybe someday Iāll find someone, but itās more likely that Iāll not. And thatās okay. I donāt need love to feel complete, and until the day I finally accept that I guess Iāll continue to push away the people I want most in my life on the baseless fear that theyāll love me.

You know what I wanna do this summer? I want to go stargazing with someone. I want to drive out to the middle of nowhere, with snacks and drinks, and find a nice place to park where we can see the stars. I want to put a fluffy blanket on top of the car and just lay there, staring at the sky and talking with this person about everything and nothing at the same time, about our lives and the different patterns we see in the constellations, tracing the shapes with a finger like we could actually touch the stars. I want there to be music, an artist that we both like and can sing along to no matter how out of tune we sound. Or maybe silence, taking comfort in the sounds of cars far in the distance or the occasional chirp of a bird that hasnāt gone to sleep yet. I want to stay there until the sky turns a light blue, slowly hiding the stars as the sun begins to rise.
The problem is, I donāt think anyone I know would want to do this, and honestly I get it because people donāt really go stargazing anymore. So Iāll stay wishing.
