#vampire roommate

I've been afflicted with Vampire Lust Disease recently (it is chronic and incurable) and I've been thinking of Anton ❤️💚❤️ I need him to bite me forreal forreal (I will be a perv about it)

That ficlet of him spying on the lewd thoughts of a horny reader has lived in my head rent! free! ever since I read it.

Small lore question, how exactly do vampires work in this universe? I know there's a lot of little variations across media, specifically things like what effect their bite has on their prey, how someone gets turned into a vampire, whether or not they have hypnotic powers etc. Also, is this information the human populace would know? I'm just imagining Anton offering to correct any misguided ideas the reader might have (with no ulterior motives whatsoever (lie)😈)

And then, slightly off topic question, but does he speak with any kind of accent in particular? so I can better image his dirty talk just curious 👀

In the MC universe, vampires are widely known because, alongside with werewolves, they're one of the most popular monster species! Since they're a humanoid type of monster they're more 'digestible', so to speak, in the eyes of most humans who hold a lot of assumptions about monsters and monster society. Bigger, scarier monsters are usually the ones that people know the least about because they're less alluring than a sort-of-monstery-but-mostly-human-seeming monster. But because of that, vampires have the opposite problem where a huge part of the populace think they know everything about vampires because they're all the same, when in fact vampires have starkly different traits based on their origin, culture, and race.

Take garlic for example! Although garlic braids have traditionally been portrayed as a way to ward off vampires, some eastern cultures of vampires have an immense tolerance to it because their food history has long involved garlic as a staple of their recipes. Same for holy water--while it's likely to burn some vampires, others will be unaffected, particularly if they're of a faith outside of Catholicism or Christianity. In fact, crosses and other holy icons are more likely to affect those with the religions associated with it! Some covens have only drunk animal blood for thousands of years, and some are averse to anything but the pure blood of humans. Even the process of turning is a lot different based on the type of vampire you encounter, although in that sense it's primarily the rituals that differ but the process itself is relatively similar. A few types of vampires can decide on spawning or feeding based on where on the body they bite, while some rely on a certain amount of blood being drawn or simply have it left to chance or fate. There's a society of vampires in the south that decide their next leader based on who of their human sacrifices survives the feeding process and becomes a vampire themselves, which might only happen every few millennia.

In Anton's case, he's part of a large species of what one might consider 'classical' vampires. He comes from money and his line goes back many, many, many generations--but being conventional also means he feels a bit stereotypical at times, because the exaggerated tropes in movies, porn, and literature hits a little too close to home sometimes. He doesn't sparkle, but his green eye does glow in the dark which he finds a little embarrassing, and his father has always teased that it's because they have some cyclops blood on one side of the family. But it's nothing compared to the fact that he's one of the types of vampires whose reflection will fade in the mirror when he hasn't fed enough. Very few vampires actually have no reflection, but many like Anton will notice a bit of transparency when they start to get hungry. And as we've seen before >:) he has a measure of hypnotic power he can exercise over unsuspecting minds if he so pleases. That part of his power isn't fully reliant on his vampirism and not an inherent trait, but the whisper of something he was born with that he honed to make use of over the years. If anything, it's more of a hint of magic in his blood than it is vampirism.

As for the turning process, it's a bit more dangerous than most. For those who aren't born a vampire, for Anton's species, the way to turn someone is to first make them a spawn before they can ascend into full vampirism after a month or so. Being a spawn is essentially the turning point where the body adjusts to its new form; the symptoms usually include some pretty wicked sickness, like the worst flu you've had times a thousand, and usually they'll be compelled to stick close to the vampire that turned them, which usually works out as they'll need a mentor to get used to their new body and new urges. The spawning process is done by drinking from a person until they reach the very edge of death, until they're just about completely drained of all their blood, before pulling back and waiting for them to revive as a vampire. Because it's such a delicate process it's usually only done by very old or very experienced vampires, because aside from the risk of the person failing to revive it's also an extreme test of willpower from the vampire performing it--any coven can attest to the fact that the closer the victim gets to death, the sweeter the taste of their blood. They also run the risk of falling into a blood frenzy, and at one point it wasn't uncommon for vampires to attempt the spawning ritual only to kill their victim in a crazed state, before rampaging in a violent bloodlust and killing many more humans and monsters along the way. Nowadays it's pretty rare, but it does still happen every so often, though usually to a much lesser degree since covens have cracked down on establishing better blood trades to eliminate the need for live feeding.

Leaving breakfast out for each other when the other goes to work.

Having movie nights because it started out as a get to know your roommate and then it just became a tradition.

Patching each other up when the hero/villain comes back bruised and wounded.

Catching each other with weird food combos late at night when they're supposed to be asleep?!

Scaring each other's dates.

Covering for one another when the other has a bounty on their head.

Having late night liquor sessions when the other is down in the dumps.

Teaching their not human roommate that you're not allowed to eat soap, no wonder the soap supply is drastically gone.

Being a literal blood bank for their vampmate in exchange for taking you to Costco every grocery trip.

Babysitting their roommate's niece/sister/nephew/brother and just forming alliance with them to overthrow their roommate. Super effective, and kinda attractive.

Grocery shopping together and pushing the other in the grocery cart and just wreaking havoc in the store.

Building pillowforts in the livingroom together.

Having nerf fights and ambushing each other.

Painting their vampmate so they would at least have a picture.

Taking their alien friend on a all you can eat buffet so they can experience the food and the roommate can get their money's worth.

Destroying each other at game nights.

Having their roommate's pet prefer them over their owner.

Human roommate basking in the sun so their vampmate can feel the sun’s heat lingering when they platonically cuddle.

And at first I was thinking, stick Sam in the VtWV universe. But there are complications to that, including that he could only stay a day or two before he needs to find some sort of food source, cause his usual one doesn't exist there.

But if I stick Vlad in the VtWV universe, that would work better. He's a fruitpire, he can buy his food at the grocery store. Plus, he and Roman are both theatre people, so that gives me a way to have them meet.

And the vampire thing would come up pretty quick, cause Roman's the costumer, so it won't be long before he's got Vlad in front of a mirror.

Vlad hasn't ever had a reason to hide being a vampire, so he's quite candid about it, and answers Roman's questions.

(Roman: "But... I've seen you eat normal food!

Vlad: "Fruit. You've seen me eat fruit. I'm a fruitpire."

Roman: "Fruitpire?"

Vlad: "Fruit bat vampire. We're actually more common than 'regular' vampires.")

Roman assumes, reasonably, that the height difference is because Vlad and Virgil are different kinds of vampires, especially if Vlad mentions that fruitpires and 'regular' vampires are genetically distinct. (I forget the sciency words atm but they're the same species, different next level down.)

Eventually, Roman brings Vlad home with him to meet Virgil, and both are astonished by the other vampire's size.

The general consensus between vampires and werewolves is that, despite a long history of conflict between the two species, there's only some residual grudges lingering about rather than full-blown hatred. If anything, it's more likely that humans will perpetuate the notion of werewolves vs. vampires from popular idioms to porn categories, but it's a bit out of style to pretend there's a big feud especially when there are so many monster types roaming around nowadays. It's definitely-mostly-considered a "grampa you're getting dementia" kind of conflict rather than anything wholly profound.

Which directly contradicts the relationship Priam and Antón have. They get into it a lot. For as often as they get along they have twice as many instances of arguing or fighting outright, which usually turns into a wrestling match on the living room floor until somebody shouts 'uncle'. It's generally considered somewhat snobbish to judge another monster by their species (with exceptions, of course) so only Antón's more noble, well-bred vampire peers have anything to say about his roommate, thinly veiled by criticisms of his brutishness or lazy nature to cover it up.

If you caught somebody like Antón or the Dean's eye and you weren't a student, you'd be in danger from the first moment you locked eyes with them

What kind of danger? The good kind or the bad kind? Because Anton. Just Anton you know?

HEHE. I like the way you think. There's definitely a handful of monsters with prime yandere material that could be expanded on...and Antón is most definitely one of them.
