Gundham growled, the sting of his wounds dimming to the exhaustion seeping through his bones. His opponent laughed, and the sound echoed in his head. The horrid scraping from the lungs of a man left buried for centuries. So how... how could he be so strong?
“I thought you learned before. I will always overpower you.” He grimaced as painful memories sparked through him. Whirling around, he buried his hand deep in his cloak, clutching at his long-still heart.Â
“I was young then.”
“And you are weak now.” Apollon smiled, tongue flicking out from the corner of his mouth. “You haven’t fed for years, Boy. Your soul grows stagnant.”
“You’re a liar.” Gundham began to rub his fingertips together, the glow of sparks concealed in his cloak. The storm clouds remaining from the earlier battles began to swirl together. Glancing at Apollon, he found comfort in the other’s oblivion.
“You think so?” He voice ricocheted off the walls of the school building. The sound filled Gundham’s ears and he winced as he held his left arm far out to the side. The smallest crackle of lightning whispered in his palm, and his turner began to transform. “THEN PROVE ME TO TELL LIES!”Â
The ground trembled as Apollon’s body was shrouded in a blast of smoke. Gundham held his ground as wind whipped past his face, throwing his cloak from side to side in the current. Before the dust had even begun to clear, a great serpent exploded forth. His eyes glimmered of jade and magic, and a powerful venom dropped from his jaws. He stayed that way for a moment, rearing at the small boy before him. And such, Gundham was the one to make the first move.
Lightning surged through his left arm, drawing strength from the great clouds above. And the battle had begun anew, with blue-violet storm and jade-blooded snake, and two powerful Vampyres could be seen by any with the right eye for hundreds of miles.Â
Apollon circled Gundham, fangs slick with venom. Gundham cast his arm to the right, and hot blue electricity rocketed up the serpent’s side, leaving smoking trails as the beast shrieked in agony. Then it was Apollon’s turn as he thrashed his mighty body and caught Gundham by surprise at his feet, throwing him to the ground as an easy target. He reared his head to strike.
Gundham rolled to the side, just far enough to be missed, and he heard the dull thud and scrape of the snake hitting the ground and dragging his jaws through the caked earth. Gundham leapt to his feet, only to be greeted by another wall of scale and muscle enclosing on his body. He struggled to summon the thunder from his left hand, but felt only the tingling race of sparks floating into the serpent’s flesh.
Apollon quickly wrapped more of his form around the boy, reveling in the creak of Gundham’s bones as he squirmed. His voice rolled out across the grounds once more, now as if from some ethereal realm. “And do you still presume to call me a liar?”
Gundham coughed, the restriction against his ribs making speaking horribly difficult. He knew he could not die of suffocation, but Gods, it hurt.Â
Seeing that they boy could no longer even speak, Apollon brought his mighty serpent head down to face him eye to eye. “All right then, Boy. Perhaps it’s time I put a second puncture wound into you.” He opened his jaws, preparing.
Wheezing, Gundham rubbed his fingertips together, checking to be certain he still had the power of the skies gathered in enough force. “Unfortunately for you, this won’t actually be the second time I’ve been bitten. Especially on the neck,” he managed to gasp out the words.
“Oh?” Apollon tilted his head slightly, caught off guard by the odd remark. “And, pray-tell, by whom?” He reared once more, ready to strike him down the moment the words left his lips.
Gundham smirked, and prepared his finishing blow.Â
“Your mother.”
He tore his hand from beneath his cloak and summoned all the power, all then energy, all the pure magic possible and called it to him, striking his right hand dead in the palm, and an eruption of pure violet lightning poured from his body, exploding in a single blast of power. Apollon’s screams were drowned in the shattering sound of thunder that followed, as the snake was torn to shreds by the sheer force of it all.
And in the end, it was Gundham who stood victorious. He looked at the charred body of the man who cursed him, and the scars left on the earth, and with one final triumphant spark, the great Vampyre collapsed.
