Being a vampire in space is... hard, to say the least about it. The Captain knew this problem way too well. They had a supply of blood bags they'd been able to get on the ship, but keeping this a secret was hard.
Today was a struggle. Why? Someone got a cut. The Captain was halfway across the ship when they smelled the blood, their eyes widening. Y/n closed their eyes and leaned on the closest wall, clenching their jaw tightly to try and avoid their fangs from coming out. They could feel how hard they were gripping their thigh through their suit.
"Uhh, Captain? You alright?"
Oh fuck. Y/n forgot they weren't alone in the room. Mack was in here. Of course he was, he was fixing a part of the ship that he and Y/n had noticed to be faulty.
Y/n shook their head, gripping the wall and stumbling to the side. They just had to get to their room on the ship, open a blood bag, and satiate this hunger.
They heard footsteps coming closer to them, and hands grabbed their shoulders.
"Whoa, you almost fell there. You need help?"
"Mack d-" Y/n stuttered, groaning inwardly. They had to control their urges, right now. The cut on the other side of the ship had been covered, but Y/n still needed to satisfy their hunger. They took a deep breath. "Don't touch me."
Mack let out a condescending laugh. "What?" He asked, not removing his hands from Y/n. "Captain, are you alright? Do you need to get to the med bay?"
"No, I think I just need to lie down," Y/n managed to speak. Their speech was slurred and quick.
"Fine, let's get you to your room, then," Mack said with a sigh.
"I can get there myself," The Captain said between their gritted teeth, attempting to get away from Mack.
Mack didn't let up, only trying to help more. "I'm not too sure about that, Cap'n."
Y/n decided to let Mack help, groaning quietly to themself as they stumbled along with Mack bringing them down the halls. They kept their face away from Mack, trying to not look at him. They knew they wouldn't be able to control themself if they saw a human right now.
Once they finally made it to the Captain's quarters, Y/n leaned against the wall and put their hand against the scanner. Their breathing was heavy, knowing they were closer to getting the blood bags.
"Are you going to need my help getting in?" Mack asked from behind.
Y/n shook their head frantically. "Just go," they said quickly. The door finally opened and they stumbled in, rushing to their bed. They stumbled more, getting to their knees to pull the hidden cooler out from behind a desk. They opened the cooler and hurriedly grabbed a bag, ripping open a corner. Blood spattered out of the bag from the force, but Y/n didn't care, starting to gulp down the bag as fast as they could.
Finishing the bag, they dropped it and panted loudly, leaning against their bed. They lifted their hand and opened their eyes, going to lick some of the spilt blood off of it. They froze, looking up to see Mack in the doorway staring at them. Y/n's jaw dropped, realizing what had happened. They glanced at themselves, blood spattered on their hands, suit, and floor beneath them.
"C-Cap...tain?" Mack looked nervous, which was unusual.
The Captain got up quickly, almost falling as they did so. "Listen, I-." They paused, thinking for a moment. "Come in here."
"What?" Mack's voice was small; he was trying to back away.
"Come in here, now. I don't want anyone else seeing this," Y/n ordered.
Mack almost tripped over his own feet as he got into the room, closing the door behind him. He backed against it after it closed.
"So, is there any other explanation for that other than the one I'm thinking?" Mack asked.
The Captain just sighed and pinched the bridge of their nose. "No, there's not. Yes, I'm a vampire." They noticed the blood still on their arm and licked it off, not wanting it to go to waste. "And before you ask, no, none of those blood bags are any of the crew's. This is all from Earth from what I'd had already."
Mack looked down into the cooler. "There's not that many bags left," he remarked.
The Captain nodded slowly. "I've been trying to ration them out, make them all last longer. But someone got a cut in Cryo and I could smell it. I just went haywire, I couldn't do anything but get one of these bags." They looked around at the floor and their now definitely stained suit. "A little annoying that this happened, but I guess I'll have to deal. These fuckin' bags aren't gonna last me very long." They added the last part quietly, more to themself.
"You could-" Mack started, pausing for a second. "You could use... me," he offered.
Y/n looked at him, raising a brow in confusion. They let out a disbelieving scoff. "You're joking." They noticed Mack's cheeks and ears reddening. "Oh my god you're serious." They stepped a little closer to Mack. "You've had your blood taken before for tests, right?" Mack nodded. "So you know how it feels when you have less blood in your system than you're supposed to."
"Yes, but you're our Captain," Mack pointed out. "You need to survive somehow."
Y/n laughed slightly. "Don't you want to be Captain, anyway?" they asked.
Mack stammered for a second, looking away and rubbing the back of his neck. "Not really, I just know how to run the ship very well," he said. "Plus, the crew seems to really like you, and it'd be a shame if they... lost you."
Y/n caught on to what he was saying and smiled, one lip quirked up a bit more. "You like me," they said.
"No!" Mack quickly denied. "I mean, as a person, you're fine," he defended.
"You like me," the Captain repeated, stepping closer to Mack. The latter started backing away again.
"N-not in that way!" Mack stuttered, nervously chuckling. "I think you're a really good person and all, b-" He stopped talking as his back hit the wall. Y/n had him cornered, reaching forward.
The Captain put one finger under Mack's chin and tilted his head to look up at them. They slowly moved their hand to the side of his neck, finger gently running up and down Mack's neck. His breath stuttered out, his body relaxing slightly.
"May I?" The Captain asked, lowering their voice.
Mack nodded a bit, slightly moving his head to the side.
The Captain grinned excitedly, their fangs coming out. Their eyes slowly turned a dark red, and their pupils thinned to a small slit. Y/n moved quickly, one hand holding Mack's shoulder to keep him in place. The other holding his face and head up as they bit into Mack's neck with their fangs.
Mack made an unexpected sound, almost a whimper, as the sharp teeth pierced his skin. The Captain's fangs retracted to allow them to suck the blood through the holes, tasting the blood.
The engineer's blood was much sweeter than they'd expected it to be. The taste was delightful, rich in texture and exactly how they'd liked it. Once they'd decided they were done, they pulled away with one last lick against Mack's neck. They pressed their hand against the wound on Mack's neck and looked at him to see how he was doing.
To the Captain's surprise, Mack seemed fine. Happy, even. They thought it was from the blood loss, his brain not processing it correctly. Until Mack decided to speak.
"Holy shit, that was the hottest thing I've ever seen," Mack said quietly. After speaking, he looked surprised to have actually said it.
The Captain smiled slightly before grabbing his face and pulling him into a kiss. Mack melted into the touch; though, again, Y/n couldn't tell if it was from blood loss or actual bliss. After they pulled back, Mack's lips were slightly stained with his own blood.
Mack was panting, his eyes closed. The Captain grabbed his shoulder to keep him upright. They chuckled softly.
"The blood loss is getting to you," they said. Mack nodded sluggishly, leaning into Y/n's touch. "Alright, I got you," they said. They moved positions and put Mack's arm around their shoulder, wrapping theirs around his waist to carry him over to the bed.
They laid Mack down on their bed, the engineer not objecting due to his lightheadedness. While Mack recovered, Y/n started cleaning up the spilled blood from earlier. They also put a patch on Mack's neck to stop the bleeding but not before getting one last taste of his blood.
After a while, Mack finally recovered enough to be able to sit up. "I don't know if it's because of all the- the blood loss, but that was..."
"Hot?" Y/n finished his sentence for him. "You said it before, I don't know if you even realized that." They walked over to the bed and sat on the edge, looking at him. "So I'm guessing you're fine with me feeding off of you to save my other rations?"
Mack gave the Captain a smile that said he'd be willing to do that, and more.
