      he’s hardly in the door when he hears jamie, the younger practically wrapping around him like a snake as he stands there.❝ dude, i’ve been gone for like two days. it’s not like i died again. ❞ hayden laughs and returns his friend’s hug, patting his back with a grin before he pulls away to set his backpack down on the floor and shrug his coat off.

     ❝ what’d i miss while i was up in new haven? ❞ he asks, turning to face the other.❝ cause it was dead boring while i was away and it was the least entertaining two days in my life. ❞ while he listens to jamie speak, he kneels and starts to rummage through his bag, nodding along as he unpacks.❝ oh! i brought you back some new spider-man comics for you, too. figured you’d like ‘em. ❞

      it’s the same song and dance they’ve gone through for the entirety of their friendship, only now jamie knows the tell-tale signs of hayden’s distress. and so when he plops himself down into hayden’s lap and wraps him in a blanket, the younger knows he can’t just LIE his way out of this one. hazel-green eyes shift away from jamie, brows knit together as he focuses instead on the floor.❝ look, it’s just— - i’m fine i’m just dealing with this.. i dunno. it’s complicated. ❞ he sighs.

     ❝ i’ve just.. been dwelling on the past a lot, thinking about how things have changed. and right now, we’ve got it great! we made it and we’re alive and well but we.. we lost things along the way. and sometimes i just… feel like i’ve lost the last part of me that was still good, that was still HUMAN, y’know? it’s hard. ❞ he grips the blanket, keeps himself composed.❝ i know, it sounds dumb but that good in me.. it feels sullied, ruined, like all the shit we went through put an uncleanable stain on me. like i’ll never be half the person i used to be. it’s whatever. i’ll get over it. ❞

      he’s half asleep, wrapped up in his softest blanket, tucked into the farthest corner of the ceiling away from the door. a soft hiss at the sudden intrusion, but not much else. at least it’s just jamie. ❝ i’m fine. ❞ it comes out like an automated response. ❝ just sleepy. ❞

“Caroline won’t eat her vegetables because, and I quote, ‘Jamie doesn’t eat them and he’s strong so why should I?’” A hand runs through her hair, a clear sign of frustration and a bit of amusement in her eyes. Of course her daughter would lock onto the vampire she had once been enchanted by. Seemed all Singer girls were doomed to the same fate.
