Okay, she’s met them in passing, and she’s learned all about them, but she’s never met them, never known a human for more than one interaction. They fascinate her and tries to learn about them as much as she can through reading

She’s read hundreds of thousands of books in her lifetime. Libraries are one of the few places that Emily is permitted to go to on her own.

Everything about them fascinates her, but she’s especially enamored with the arts. Writing, art, music. Anything.

Just thinking about the fact that humans would create something that will outlive them gets Emily rambling. It’s just so poetic.

But the coven won’t allow Emily to have contact with humans at all.

At least, not until her 200th birthday (or rather her 20th)

But Emily can’t bring herself to be excited to finally be allowed to have contact with humans

Because this contact is her first hunt.

Emily’s never been comfortable with the whole killing humans thing. She’s always fed on animals. And how could she kill a human? Eating a rabbit is one thing, but this?

And of course, the older vampires won’t listen. They tell her she’s being stubborn, caring too much. They say that the humans will die anyway. Emily can’t convince them that this just isn’t how she wants to be.

So, she runs away. The second she’s out of their sight, she runs. And she never looks back.

And, after traveling across the country, Emily ends up in Atlanta, on a college campus.

She figures that she’s far enough away so that her coven won’t find her (hell, they might not even try), but she figures that the best place to blend in is here

Emily has her first real interaction with a human when she’s reading in the library

She’s talked to a few people before, but none of them were interested in her, so they all moved on pretty quickly

But while she’s sitting in the stacks, surrounded by piles of books, someone comes over and starts talking to her

And Emily has been around for 200 years but she doesn’t think she’s ever seen anyone so beautiful

“Hi, sorry am I in your way?”

“No problem. But, what are you doing? Are you studying for every exam on earth?”

“Uh not really. I’m just reading for fun.”

And somehow they start talking about what Emily’s reading. This girl listens to Emily ramble on about literally every subject possible for hours. Emily doesn’t even learn her name until they’ve been talking for thirty minutes and Emily realizes she forgot to ask (human customs are so hard)

“I’m Stacie.”

“It suits you. My real name is Aemilia, but I go by Emily.”

“Both of them are almost as pretty as you.”

And Emily thinks that this human, Stacie, might be courting her? (Stacie teases her later for saying courting) and Emily doesn’t mind at all. Because Stacie is intelligent and beautiful and funny and can sing and listens to Emily talk about all of her favorite writers for an hour

They start dating, and it’s not very long before Emily has to reveal what she is to Stacie

Stacie thinks it’s a joke at first, but Emily starts pointing out things that should have tipped Stacie off and Stacie is like “holy shit”

Emily is terrified of how Stacie will react because she likes hanging out with Stacie and doesn’t want her to be scared of her

Stacie, more than anything, is fascinated

She wants to know everything about vampires, everything about Emily’s 200 years on earth, everything she could possibly learn

Emily hates to disappoint her but she has a pretty bad memory so she only has vague stories from the past couple centuries

Stacie thinks having a vampire girlfriend might be the best thing to ever happen to her

She’s always been fascinated with the supernatural. Totally a big believer in any and all things supernatural
