Yes, I do have a plan in place before writing; it feels like a safety net to me. For a while, I didn’t outline my longer stories until I was about a third of the way through writing them, but lately I’ve been outlining beforehand, and it’s been helpful.

Shiro paused in passing the old training halls at the noise. Curious, he tapped the controls by the door and poked his head into the darkened passageway, noticing one lit up near the end.

More heavy thudding noises reached his ears. 

Huh.

Sort of sounded like the sparring weights he remembered Tur’lissins using back in the old days. Maybe some of the new kids had found them. Couldn’t hurt to check...

Heading down the way, he leaned around the partition-

and went very still.

A huge bag hung from the ceiling in the middle of the room, and intent on beating the stuffing out of it was Coran.

Shiro was suddenly very aware of how remote from the rest of the castle this floor was. 

And just how many of Coran’s scars were visible when he didn’t have his armor or his shirt to hide them.

Feeling like he’d just intruded on something very private, Shiro swallowed hard and quickly backed away into the shadows, fleeing back to the main door of the training halls.

Reminiscent of old mythology (sounds like ‘harpies’) and 'heart beats’… and light because of the harp… Good name!
