Some fanart sketches of Vainger! What a fantastic Metroid(vania). It captures so much of the coolness I love from Super Metroid in particular, from the mysterious, bulky hero, the skills customization, and the broody landscape. So many of the UFO50 games are Metroid love letters and I'm fully on board with that.

I beat Vainger!!
This game was heavily inspired by Metroid specifically, but Vainger is designed around a core mechanic where you can reverse gravity, and flip upside down at any time. It's not my favorite genre of game, but I was still pretty impressed by how tightly the whole game environment was designed around that core mechanic (sort of like an action oriented take on Warptank's puzzle game formula). It was relatively short, but it still took me a handful of hours, and I'm glad that I had the chance to marathon it in just a couple of play sessions. That way, it was easier to remember the progress that I was making, and which rooms to return to. On one final note, Vainger's final boss was crazy, and made me really glad that I meticulously searched the map for every possible upgrade before fighting him. So yeah! It was a fun experience, even if it might not be my favorite game in the pack. 28/50
