Vahiny depereti
By Jack Wood, @thewoodparable
Name: Vahiny depereti
Name Meaning: Traveler
First Described: 2014
Described By: Rogers & Wilson
Classification: Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Sauropodomorpha, Plateosauria, Massopoda, Sauropodiformes, Anchisauria, Sauropoda, Gravisauria, Eusauropoda, Neosauropoda, Macronaria, Titanosauriformes, Somphospondyli, Titanosauria
Vahiny is a recently described titanosaur from the Maevarano Formation in norhtwestern Madagascar, where it lived alongside Rapetosaurus, another titanosaur. It was very rare compared to its distant cousin, though it is known from a juvenile as well as a braincase and some vertebrae. Luckily, that braincase is different enough to mark Vahiny as distinct from Rapetosaurus. It lived in the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous, about 70 to 66 million years ago. It was similar to Jainosaurus from India.
