Why is it always like this? Something good happen - and then right away something bad. This was supposed to be happy time. A hot shower, for the first time in weeks. It may sound silly, but since the literal Apocalypse has broken through, it was really hard to find safe spaces to sleep, let alone some that have still functioning water supply. I was forced to wash myself in cold-ass river and other just as pleasant ways. The fact we found out this house, relatively safe and with working electricity, was almost miracle. A shower, can you imagine?Ā
But nothing good lasts. I was reminded by the fact when I finally washed out all the blood and dirt from my body just to see that the red crescent is not hallucination. It was there, right on my left biceps -Ā inflamed, striking and pretty final. I have to tell Eloise, I thought, washing off the rest of soap. But how? Ā Owner of this house was careful, apparently. Not careful enough though - just like me. God knows what has happened to him. We could hope that he was safely transferred out of the infected zone, but I reckon he was wandering outside with the rest of them.Ā Just like me...
Chill run down my spine and it wasnāt just the cool air surrounding my bare skin. I wrapped into a towel (again, thing I havenāt seen in ages), looking into the mirror. I didnāt look like someone dying. Sure, I have lost a lot of weight, but otherwise I was still muscular. I wasnāt loosing hair, my gums werenāt bleeding. My skin was still pretty much healthy. No sores, bruises, nothing. I looked perfectly fine - except of that damn crescent. Death sentence.
With black thoughts, I put on clothes. It, as many things, was borrowed from the house-owner, until mine dries. Due that fact it was a little bit ill-fitting, too loose for my liking, but at least covering most of my arms. Due to my experience I have about 24 hours from the time of the bite. Considering I donāt remember when it had happen, that leaves me with pretty short amount of time to tell Eloise. I am obviously not going ask her to ... help me with this. Thatās my ownĀ responsibility. But she deserves to know. But how you tell something like that to someone? And not just any someone - someone you care about. Someone you are genuinely going to miss.
I decided to go down to grab some canned food and then deal with it. I am usually thinking better when I am fed. With that heavy steps (mine) were heard on the staircase. I was coming down to the kitchen.Ā
