Uziel Paper Craft
I recently finished a fun little project, a papercraft of the Uziel mech from MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries!
MW4M was the first proper game I played. I got the demo for MechWarrior 4 Vengeance and loved it, and we went to the store to get it and ended up with Mercenaries instead, because I didn't understand that there could be multiple things called MechWarrior 4 at the time.
Recently I had a recollection of stumbling upon some papercrafts of the mechs back then and attempting to put some together. I can't recall if I was successful, probably not since my main tool back then was hot melt glue, but they left an impression.
I spent ages searching around the internet until I finally found this website HERE which had an archive of many of these paper crafts. I was so happy.
It was a bit more work than I thought to actually print out, the exports from the program were horribly jpg compressed, and at at fixed size, so I ended up taking multiple screenshots and arranging them in another program so I could print it out the size I wanted.
Initially I did it way too small, but it was easy enough to 2x the size and reprint. I find myself using Blender a lot for stuff like this lol, its just so much easier to rotate and arrange things precisely compared to something like G.I.M.P..
It was very fun, I hadn't done a paper craft in years. I got this nice new mat that really helps with cutting things on, you can barely see where you cut in to it. I'm only using the inches side because its the one I don't care about getting damaged.
I reinforced the body with some toothpicks and it could actually free stand when I was done, but I thought it would look better with a stand. Initially the stand was just going to be black but at the last minute I thought it would look nice with some simple greenery. Quite happy with the result.
Really had a lot of freedom to pose it and give it a bit of life.
It was a fun little project, nice to have something that was done in a couple days. Really want to do more, there's a lot of Mechs I'm a big fan of. I'm leaning towards the Catapault....
I also have a model kit of the mech the Longbow was a knockoff of...
