December 28 - National Card Playing Day
Card playing was the UWM Post’s “Gripe of the Week” in the January 14, 1960 issue. Card playing was not permitted in the Student Union due to complaints about card games taking up table space during the mid-day rush on the cafeteria (although exceptions were made for Sheepshead tournaments). The ban on card playing was later limited to the Union Ballroom, but that prohibition, per the Post, was similarly disregarded by many students. By 1970, card playing was permitted in all areas of the Student Union.
