An unidentified Uvalde PD officer was seen, repeatedly washing his hands and muttering to himself. He is quoted as saying "Out, damned spot, out, I say! Fie, my lord, fie, a soldier and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? Yet who would have thought the young children to have had so much blood in them?"
Another, caught on video during the shooting applying hand sanitizer, stated "What, will these hands ne’er be clean?"
"Here’s the smell of the blood still," said a third Uvalde PD official, "All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this hand."
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, responsible for preventing any useful action by the officers under his command at the scene, couldn't be reached for comment. Inside sources say he was busy frantically scrubbing the indelible yet imaginary bloodstains from his hands, to no avail.
