That was indeed long so thanks for the amount of thought you put into the reply. However I didn't mean to ask about your status on feminism (it was an analogy) as much as your view on this mainstream idea that trans women are going against their rights/interest by admitting any sort of maleness, whether sociological (trans women socialized male) or biological (trans women being physically male).
Oh! Good question, lol! Yes, thatâs very different. So youâre referring to that idea that transwomen are hurting themselves and the community by acknowledging that the are on some level male.
I think itâs absolutely bullshit and one of the things I hate most about modern feminism. Itâs actually one of the reasons why I started this blog. Over the past year I started focusing more on talking to radfems but when I first started this blog I was fighting other transpeople saying things like that.
Thereâs a debate between Blaire White and Indigo Fox where Indigo Fox claims that although it is 100% true transwomen are biologically male or have been socialized male on some level, we cannot admit it or discuss it because people historically have used that to oppress transpeople. Essentially the history of a fact negates the fact.
I reject this for the same reason Blaire does: itâs a fact. I canât erase the fact that Iâve lived 23 years of my life as a male. When I start hormones in two weeks that wont suddenly erase my biology or socialization. I will still have XY chromosomes. Even with hormones, surgery, document changes, I will never be biologically female. But, thatâs just a fact I need to accept. That fact only limits me as much as I let it.
I personally find being factual and honest the most important thing, Sometimes facts might upset someone but that doesnât negate the importance of facts. Transwomen will need to acknowledge this with their doctors. Itâs something they have to acknowledge the rest of their life. I think, at least personally, it would be more harmful to suppress this acceptance than to just deal with it. Facts are facts. And when/if people try to use those facts to limit transpeople like many claim, we can combat that with accepting the facts and giving rational responses to it. To just scream âtransphobicâ or âthis is hate speechâ wont address the fact. Born male, its a disorder, so what. We accept that. People with far worse disorders and much more destructive medicine do things every day. If we accept the facts, we can respond to them rationally when theyâre weaponized.
Gender dysphoria is a mental disorder. And thatâs fine. Transition is just the best treatment option we have available for this disorder. I find it juvenile to not accept this. âThey were always a womanâ is an altering of reality. âSex is a social constructionâ is an altering of reality. We should be open and honest about our biological limitations because at the end of the day it only hurts us if we let it.
I donât care if I was male for 23 years. I just know that I hope within two years, hormones and etc will get me to a point when I donât hate myself when I look in the mirror. I donât care if someone calls me out for being male. That fact doesnât hurt me and canât hurt me. I still have a girlfriend that loves me, a family that supports me, and friends that respect me.
