Hey there, I hope you’re all doing okay. I was just hoping to get some help. I’m a trans woman and I would love to have children one day, and obviously adoption is an option and I will be doing that no matter what happens but all the same I’m really disheartened by the fact that I can’t have children of my own, people keep saying that science will advance but given that there are only just self lubricating vaginas being given to us I have a hard time believing people will actually put in the
Pt. 2 Time and money to help trans women have pregnancies, I was reading about uterus transplants for cis women to have pregnancies and there were 4 successful cases and when the person who did them was asked about using them for trans women, they said it’s more important that cis women get them because it’s their bodily autonomy that should be respected and they are more deserving, obviously not in those specific words. I’m just so upset and I don’t know what to do about it. Ty
I haven’t heard of anyone saying that trans women are less deserving or anything similar. Nor am I sure what bodily autonomy has to do with this, especially in a way that wouldn’t apply to trans women.
The reason uterine transplants are not yet being tested on trans women is because there’s some extra considerations to take in. Right now, a basis needs to be established before testing can progress. There’ve been lots of transplants, but not as many successful pregnancies. It’s like learning to walk before you run.
But the technology is moving quickly. It’s been about 6 years since the first successful pregnancy, and we’ve had several more since then. That’s pretty fast for this kind of thing!
And there’s no particular reason why it would not be possible for trans women, logically and medically speaking. Despite the extra considerations, it’s within reach, according to experts.
So don’t despair. It’s very possible you’ll be able to have kids. Keep your ear to the ground, and you may potentially be able to apply for test transplants when the time comes.

(Also, self-lubricating neovaginas aren’t very recent? I was under the impression that has been around for a while; since the 1970s or so.)
