Ok, soooo, Eclipse can't have relationships with other Nebuterrans because he is seen as someone above them, but that is something he wouldn't have to worry about with us, so would we be able to have a relationship with him? I mean, forgetting everything else about outsiders, since we are human, we don't know that he is special and different from the others, he would just be treated like the alien he is to us (*ahem* that's not me keeping my hopes up that one day we'll smooch him, mhm, totally not)

What with how much Nebuterrans use non-verbal ways to show care for friends and family and strengthen bonds through physical touch ( hugs, forehead booping, hand holding, cuddling etc) I'm sure they'll enjoy gentle head scratches too ^-^ Like it will feel strange to them at first, may take some getting used to but once they are used to it... oh boy 👀

Another ask for Dark Matter au, does the cestrae thing grow? Or it stays in that lenght forever, and is determined by genetics?. Also, is it seen as a beauty standards to have long or short cestrae? Can they change it if one doesn't like how their cestrae is?

Basically nebuterrans come in two types. Sun is an example of one, and Moon the other. They are not of two different sub-species, that's not a thing.
Whether a nebuterran is born as one or the other is solely dependent on one thing and one thing only, and for that we need to look at how they reproduce because it's a process that is unique to their planet.
I've mentioned before that their home world is very rich in natural precious resources like gems and ores, but also crystals. There's your regular crystals, pretty much the same as the ones we have on earth, but also a special sort of crystals referred to as dolicta (which is both singular and plural).
There are many different types of these dolicta with a wide range of colors and sizes and each type corresponds to a certain species (as mentioned before nebuterrans aren't the only ones with cestrae and velitt (the rays), there are animals with the same attributes and they all fall under the same umbrella, just like how we humans fall under the mammal umbrella).
A dolicta is actually a living organism and it relies on the species they're specific to, to create more dolicta. Similar to bees and flowers. The relationship is symbiotic.
For nebuterrans, their species of dolicta are a very deep, dark purple in color and stand a little taller than they do. They usually grow in clusters containing two to five dolicta each.
A dolicta serves as an incubator and this process ultimately results in more dolicta. More on that later.
In ye olden days, nebuterrans had to travel far and wide in search of these dolicta if they wanted to increase their numbers. The place where their Capital City now stands was actually the largest deposit of dolicta ever found, so the nebuterrans settled there and eventually figured out how to cultivate these dolicta instead of leaving things to chance. What was then meant to be a temporary settlement grew into the biggest city on their homeworld surrounded by farms, including a dolicta farm where these crystals are well looked after until they've matured and become ready for the next step.
When two nebuterrans pair up together as a couple and want to reproduce, they undergo a ceremony: isemii'dol. Both of them pick out a mature dolicta together, one that feels right to them both. There's gotta be a connection.
Isemii'dol itself basically means 'the combining of life's light'. Both nebuterrans take a piece of their own l'isi'vir (as a quick reminder, their inner light, what makes them glow, basically their life force) in their hands, combine it together and then imbue their chosen dolicta with it. The dolicta will then start pulsing with a vibrant purple glow, and this light will over time grow into a new nebuterran, safely protected within.
And now to actually answer your question lol. The moment a dolicta is imbued with the combined l'isi'vir of two nebuterrans is what dictates what the newborn nebuterran end up as and this has to do with the position of the sun and moon.
Where the Capital City is located, the sun (ser) and the moon (risvi) are almost always visible at the same time, but one will be stronger than the other depending on the time of day.
Our boy Sun is ser'asemi, or sun-born, which means that when his parents (for a lack of a better word) imbued the dolicta he hatched from, the light of the sun was stronger than the moon. These nebuterrans all have the large golden velitt and a short cestrae.
Moon on the other hand is risvi'asemi or, you guessed it, moon-born. In his case the light of the moon was stronger, so he got the smaller silver velitt and the fancy long cestrae.
It's literally a 50/50 chance.
Skin color has nothing to do with this btw, nebuterrans come in all kinds of colors regardless of what type they are.
Once a nebuterran hatches, the dolicta itself crumbles into dust leaving behind only its 'heart'. It looks like a shard and is extremely fragile but with the right care it can be buried like a seed and eventually grow into a new cluster of dolicta.
Sun, Moon and Eclipse all came from a single cluster containing three dolicta, though they were all born at very different times and to different pairs. This is why, despite neither of them having the same parents and there being no blood relation whatsoever (also not a thing with nebuterrans) they are still considered family. Siblings.

So this is something that might actually become a plot point depending on how things develop (because yes I have the story plotted out but these characters will go and do their own thing lol).
Because of that I can't really give you a satisfying answer right now because that's something I will mostly figure out when I get to writing it. I don't even have a step-by-step guide on it written out 🤣 It's not gonna be anything too strange though. It's all about forming a really close connection with someone over time (because they bond for life), gift giving is a big part of it among other things. There are things would mean a ton to a nebuterran if you were to give it to them, something that we would see as something basic or normal. But that's going into spoiler territory again.
For Sun and Moon, getting Eclipse's approval would help too. Not permission, you wouldn't truly need his permission, but if you're gonna be part of the family you better make sure he actually likes you XD
Very important question, dunno if it was already asked though, but would the alien boys understand what a kiss is? Sinse it's quite a normal way for humans to show affection, or a sing of partnership, or just greetings depending on the culture, they would see it somehow, no?
Im not only talking about mouth kisses, but generally. I mean, the human has a cat (in my head it's a fat cat bc yes), and who doesn't kiss their beautiful cat, filling their lips with fur? It's a necessity.
So how would they understand it? Do they have something similar in their culture? Do they kiss their fat pets or have another way to give affection? Please, i OUGHT to know

They do know what a kiss is! Nebuterrans absolutely are very physically affectionate with those they care about and are close to, including hugs, cuddles and nuzzling.
Like, personally, I'm a huge fan of forehead touches and forehead kisses. I think that shit is fucking adorable and wholesome. If a nebuterran cradles your face and presses their forehead to yours - or even better, kisses it - it could mean you mean a lot to them, they care about you, you're important, they want you close, they love you. That could extent to a beloved pet too.
It's important to note though, it's not a pleasure thing. So full on making out mouth to mouth, tongue and all, that's not really something they do. I've been thinking about this for a while (probably longer than I should lol) but it just doesn't make sense for them to do so. Though I can definitely see them ask Reader about it at some point, they're bound to see it eventually.
That's the fun thing about this whole AU to me, y'know? A lot of things are different for them, or they do different, but there's also some overlap. Reader can learn so much about them, and they can learn about humans in return, maybe even adopt a few things - words, mannerisms, that sort of thing. Totally not me imagining Reader teaching them how to make out, of course not. Ahem.
So yeah. Not really a spoiler because this is the DCA fandom, but you betcha that there will come a moment where Reader won't be exempt from affection either ^-^ There's gonna be plenty of it.
