This is Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who shot and killed Renée Good in Minneapolis. As of today, he has not been indicted.
According to multiple news reports, federal agents recently confronted a New York election worker over an Instagram post that identified Ross and called for his indictment. The election worker says agents warned her she could face legal consequences if she did not remove the post.
Whatever your views on immigration, ICE, or the shooting itself, federal agents showing up at a polling place to challenge a citizen’s social media post should concern everyone.
If posting a publicly available photograph of a government employee and expressing an opinion about whether that employee should be indicted can trigger a visit from federal agents, then we have serious questions to ask about free speech, government power, and political intimidation.
The answer to speech you disagree with is more speech—not government pressure.
