Distribution infrastructure tender reveals aggressive cable market competition
A major Distribution infrastructure tender issued by Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited has concluded with Havells India Ltd emerging as the lowest bidder for a Rs 391.12 crore cable supply package. The contract covers approximately 1,602 km of 33 KV HT XLPE Cable 3x300 sqmm intended for deployment across multiple DISCOM networks.
The Distribution infrastructure tender drew participation from nine established manufacturers including Diamond Power Infrastructure, Polycab, Paramount Communications, KEC Asian Cables and Universal Cables. Such participation levels highlight the strategic importance of large utility procurement opportunities in India’s distribution sector.
Commercially, the market displayed a clear pattern. Diamond Power Infrastructure, SPM Power & Telecom and V-MARC submitted bids within a narrow band near Rs 414 crore. However, Havells positioned itself materially below that cluster. This pricing divergence became the defining feature of the Distribution infrastructure tender.
From an industry perspective, the award reinforces the role of manufacturing scale, procurement efficiency and plant utilisation in securing large utility contracts. Similar dynamics are increasingly visible across Transmission equipment tenders in India and other infrastructure procurement programmes.
The outcome also carries implications for future bidding behaviour. Utilities may view the result as evidence that larger aggregated procurement packages can generate stronger commercial competition. The Distribution infrastructure tender therefore provides a useful benchmark for future cable purchases by state-owned utilities.
Stakeholders monitoring DISCOMs Latest News and RDSS projects will likely assess whether comparable pricing patterns emerge in upcoming procurement exercises. EnergylineIndia.com continues to monitor these developments across the power sector.
