Hay, I won't do this often. But i want to talk about what's happening in utah, with Sundance going away. I've lived in Utah. Most if not all of my life. I grew up Mormon. My entire family is or, in some cases, was Mormon. I only left the church when I was 15, when i moved back in with my mom. With her, I was allowed to watch movies I wouldn't have if I had stayed with my dad or grandparents. Alought of these movies gave me a wider and more broad understanding of pop culture in the U.S, and sometimes a wider understanding of myself. At 16 I realized I wasn't a boy, and near, but before my 17th birthday, I came out as a trans girl. I wider culture outside of mormonism is what helped me to understand who I was as a person. This state now has gotten rid of Sundance because it promotes "alternative lifestyles" and "anti lsd themes." I am a firm believer in the separation of Church and state, and this is exactly why. The utah legislation, esentualy run by the lds church, is using its religious views, i.e., that of the Mormon church, to take away safe spaces for queer and trans people. It saddens me to my core to see my state do something like this, as probable as it was. But that doesn't mean it has to be the end. This crumbling religion ran by bigoted old white men while they died out soon enough as their numbers shrink year by year, we'll fight for our safe spaces year by year, eventually, there'll be more of us then them. And there will be no one else to carry on the religion that believed that being gay or trans was a sin, belived black people couldn't hold the priesthood. That conversion therapy worked, and that still believes women can't hold real positions of power in its own religion. Today, I'm happy and healthy as a Trans woman, I have friends who, except me and a loving partner, and there's nothing thus government, this religion, this cult can do to take that away from me. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
