goshiki, tendou, ushijima | i haven’t seen you in so long / i don’t remember what you look like / so i will see you for the first time / i’ve been dreaming of the open road /  i’ve got this feeling like I won’t be coming home anytime soon

Goshiki hurriedly packs his bags; he couldn’t seem to fall into bed last night, too full of excitement, bubbling inside his chest. And when he did fall asleep, it was too late, and now he’s up late! His alarm didn’t even ring! He throws what he can find inside the sports bag; his wallet, his phone, phone charger, running shoes, socks (unsure if clean or not), some shirts, shorts, pants—Goshiki needs to remember to breathe because he’s panting so fast!—the shiratorizawa jersey with his name and the number 1, a camera–

He fumbles down the stairs and is close to just heading down head first; he slips on the wooden floor in his socks. He grabs the sandwich on his place on the dining table and swallows it in three chomps. He takes a three second look at himself in the mirror by the hallway (his tie is crooked, he might have put the buttons on wrong, but oh well) before dashing to the entryway, shucking his feet into shoes. 

He shakes himself tidy before shouting, “MOM I’LL BE LEAVING!”

He doesn’t wait for his mom to answer, doesn’t hear her chuckling about how it’s the most excited he’s been in a long time. Not that he needed to be told that, because he knew; he knew as he ran as fast as he could from house to station, legs starting to burn with the sprint without having had time to stretch. He knew as the sun blinded him when he turned the corner and he could see two tall familiar figures waiting for him with their baggages at their side.

They’ve come back. They’ve come home. For him. Today. Now. 

Finally!

Goshiki doesn’t know if he’s crying or laughing but his cheek hurts from smiling and his eyes prick as he has a running start towards the two of his favorite people in the world.
