Ushiaka + practice
This totally counts, shut up.
Send me a pairing and a one-word prompt.
There was a box sitting on Keiji’s desk when he returned from his lunch break. Small and unassuming, it perched atop the stack of incoming mail left there by the morning secretary. His mind already on the meeting scheduled for that afternoon, he picked up the box and opened it absently.
Inside, there was a small terra cotta flower pot, housing a tiny succulent. Keiji smiled and pulled it carefully from its package, setting it up on his shelf where it would get the most sunlight.
“That’s pretty.” Keiji hummed, turning to face his visitor.
“Thank you, Sugawara-san,” he said. Sugawara grinned, leaning his hip against the doorway.
“Gift from a secret admirer?” he asked. Keiji did a remarkable job of not rolling his eyes.
“From a client,” he siad. “A thank-you for some advice I gave him.”
“Advice on how to find your bedroom?” Sugawara supplied. This time Keiji did roll his eyes, even as images and memories flashed through him one by one.
“Ushijima-san and I do not have that sort of relationship. I merely helped him practice for an upcoming interview.” Hands, large and gentle, cupping his cheek.
“No?” You’ve got the type where you find his bedroom instead?” A mile, back-lit by a sunrise, small but utterly sincere.
“Sugawara-san, is there something you need?” A kiss, lingering on the back of his neck.
“Just to let you know that your three o’ clock’s wife went into labor, so I rescheduled you for next week.” Eyes, so soft and warm and dark, lingering on him, swallowing him whole, drowning him in adoration, in wonder, in nervous, giddy excitement. “I’ll leave you along now. Have fun with your totally not-romantic client.” Before Keiji could ask what he meant, his phone rang.
“Akaashi Keiji,” he greeted, slipping into his business persona as easily as breathing.
“Hello, Akaashi-kun,” replied the warm, familiar voice on the other line.
“Ushijima-san,” Keiji said, and his voice did not go breathy ad soft and adoring. “To waht do I owe the pleasure?”
“I wanted to confirm that you received my gift,” Ushijima replied. Keiji smiled, turning his face so that Sugawara couldn’t see it through the window.
“I did receive it,” he said. “It is lovely, thank you.”
“It reminded me of you,” Ushijima said softly. He sounded almost uncertain, the way he had all the time when they had first met. “The new propagations were ready to be sold, but I put that one aside so that I could send it to you.”
“Thank you,” Keiji said, hoping to heaven that Ushijima could pick up his sincerity through the professional tone he kept. “I truly appreciate it.”
“I appreciate you.” Ushijima said it plainly with no sign of the flirtiness or the sarcasm Keiji had come to expect from sentences like that. “Will I see you tonight?” Keiji chewed the inside of his cheek, glancing at the door to his office.
“Actually,” he said, looking back at his desk and pretending to busy himself with the papers there. “I had a cancellation today. If you would like to bring in what you have, we could go over it.”
“Akaashi-kun?” Ushijima asked. Keiji bit back a sigh.
“Oh no, don’t worry about that, Ushijima-san,” he said. “My secretary, Sugawara-san, would be more than happy to see that we are not disturbed.” Ushijima made a soft, understanding sound.
“Sugawara-san is listening in,” he said.
“Yes, Ushijima-san,” Keiji replied. “Of course, I understand that you have a busy schedule, so if you would like to make a more formal appointment, that can be arranged.”
“No, that won’t be necessary,” Ushijima said. “I can be there around two-thirty?”
“That sounds good. I will see you then.” Ushijima said his goodbyes and hung up, taking a moment to make sure he wasn’t blushing before he left the office to stand at Sugawara’s desk. “Ushijima-san will be coming by in an hour to go over a new project,” he said. “Make sure he makes it up here unscathed this time, please?”
“You two going to ‘practice’ some more?” Sugawara asked, grinning. “Should I get some ear plugs? Or maybe a sock to hang on the door?”
“Are you done, Sugawara-san?” Keiji asked.
“For now,” Sugawara replied. “I’m sure I’ll think of some more by the time he gets here.”
“I look forward to it,” Keiji said. He turned and went back to his office, shaking his head. The little succulent caught his eye, and he had to smile. Let Sugawara cast all the aspersions he wants, Keiji thought. He had something that was well worth it.

As King to a prosperous and growing kingdom, Ushijima Wakatoshi has a long list of responsibilities. He’s the direct leader of his kingdom’s army, and it is his duties to ensure that his men are all healthy and ready should war or discord arise. He is also versed in economics and the business of trade, finding it crucial for the continuous prosperity of the people he governs.
He is also well-aware that he must maintain peace and tranquillity among the nations he reigns, and his kingdom’s practices when it comes to going about it is his responsibility as well, which makes choosing his concubines as crucial a decision as anything.
Although, he may have had a lapse in judgement the moment he chose one Oikawa Tooru to be his concubine from Aoba Johsai.
