Elle sat alone in an ever familiar courtyard in front of the apartment that Ludger Wil Kresnik once lived in. It was at this very swing set that the two of them made their promise, to travel together as he volunteered to aide her in her search for the Land of Canaan. However, all that was left of that day, or that person, were bittersweet memories of a promised fulfilled.
There was no Ludger, nor her Papa. And in the two years that has past was lived with the makeshift family that was composed of the rest of their traveling friends.
She was not short of receiving attention or affection due to this, and the credentials of most of the people around her made her the envy of a number of her peers. Not a lot of people could easily claim to be friends with one Jude Mathis, Baran Svent, or even more impressively, the great, slightly intimidating, and technologically inept king of Liese Maxia, Gaius. She also currently lived with the Governor of Kalakh Shal and an awesome self-proclaimed sister figure, Elise Lutus. The list could really go on.
But despite this all, there was an emptiness that didn’t seem to want to leave. Being the envy of ones peers didn’t always mean something good. She had also encountered a few difficulties living and studying in Liese Maxia. There was still discrimination between the two nations after all and words between people and friends regarding her could sometimes turn hurtful.
That... and there was the fact that everyone she really was close with were moving on with their lives with a purpose of sorts, while all Ludger and her father had wished for her upon their passing was for her to live on. She had at least been fulfilling that hope, but to little reason or direction. At the speed everyone else was moving forward, how long did she still have before they all left her behind? How long will they entertain or cater to her until they would have to part ways?
A makeshift family could only go so far, right?
At that, she let out a long weary sigh and swung herself half-heartedly on the swing. She had already hit three weeks since choosing to invade Jude and Alvin’s apartment. It wouldn’t be long now until one of them questioned her, and in Alvin’s case, maybe tell her to go back to Kalakh Shal.
