Several countries, most of which were contributors to the International Battle Colosseum Association, had made a decision to make a collective archive various physical and digital media in the current century. Of course, there are other archives, but on a more personal basis. This would be the first multi-government initiative for mass archiving.

However, to no surprise, they were commissioning an android to run the archive, like you would have simple AI do, though I don’t quite understand the purpose of emotions in such a mundane task. They allowed the design to be of my choice (a rare decision in my line of work, I must add) as long as it would not take up lots of space.

Besides, Xel robots have become such an integrated part of our lives. Nobody can deny that. Whether it’s doing jobs too dangerous for humans, caretaking or cleaning, and even being our entertainment (and education, from the perspective of a robotics engineer) through the Battle Colosseum, they practically do a lot for us, and changing that now would be devolution of serious proportions.

Of course I accepted the task after letting my employer know. It clear to me when I was beginning to come up with ideas for the robot’s design that the reason they had sent the request directly to me is that they wanted my handiwork, not someone else’s.

I mean, sure, Dr. Blackwell is my father who now has quite the interesting track record, and my brother changed his identity when he left Cherry Dynamics all those years ago and since then has created the nation’s top Colosseum team, so both of them are out of the question. Though, considering events in the past few years… I’m not so sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

I have plenty of work left to do before the end of my shift so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet: today I finished Alice, the android that’ll run the International Archive of Multimedia (or IAM for short). Her proper activation went smoothly, and today would be considered her ‘birthday’. I designed her after the character from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with some creative perks. Of course, if she really wanted to, there would be no problem with changing her look.

According to the order, she’ll stay here for six months for emotional and mental learning (again, still no idea why emotions are important, but maybe time will tell) and then be moved out to the headquarters in Los Angeles.

Quite a distance from our labs here in the state of New York. I can’t help but feel she might be homesick. But the people in charge of the initiative have informed me that they’ll take good care of her. I can only trust them, I suppose.

For the time being, I have her busy with one of my old books. In the next six months, I have quite a few vacation days given to me by the company and the commissioners hand-in-hand to give her the development she needs. After all, staying cooped up in one place for too long doesn’t help. I learned that myself after I started working here when I was younger...

(...One last thing. Is it a bad thing to grow attached to your own work? I know my brother has a tendency to do that, but…)
