Here's another 3D printed fixture. This one is for precisely positioning and pinning the guitar bridge in the right place to make things play in tune. In theory the scale for this guitar is 650mm but in practice the thickness of the strings (and the inner core) modifies this slightly. On an electric guitar you can set this intonation for each string individually but acoustic guitar makers have settled on a happy "close enough for rock n roll" solution with an angled saddle offsetting from the nominal scale length. The intonation is further fine tuned by shaping the saddle itself or sometimes with a saddle split at the b string. This simple jig sets the correct intonation angle and scale length by sliding onto a wide straight edge I've had for years. I did have to scribe a mark on the precision ground edge at 650mm, but for what I'm doing that doesn't influence the usefulness of the straightedge in any real way. I'm proud of this solution as it reuses one of the more expensive measuring tools I have and was quick to make, precise and can be adapted easily for many different scales. Feel free to steal this idea, message me or leave a comment if anything is unclear. 🙂 #lutherie #luthier #acousticguitar #3dprinting #useful3dprints #luthier #irishluthier #woodworking https://www.instagram.com/p/B6nK6WOnEEb/?igshid=fbqa56q042gm
