Once upon a time, George Boldt, owner of NYC's Waldorf Astoria, built a castle for his wife, and this castle lay in the sea on an isle called Heart Island. (Okay, not the sea, but the #StLawrenceRiver.) No expense was spared in his quest to build a majestic Rhineland castle for his wife, Louise. Tragically, Louise passed away before the property was completed, and the unfinished castle lay wasting away until the 1970s, when the #ThousandIslands Bridge Authority acquired the property and began the ongoing restoration that continues.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pictures above is the “Power House and Clock Tower”, which is connected to Heart Island by that stone bridge. .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes, it's touristy. Yes, you should go see it if you're in the area. It's quite pretty, and you can't visit #AlexandriaBay without checking out this Great Gatsby-esque edifice.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #1000islands #uscanadaborder #castles #castlesoftheworld #travelpics #travelphotos #visitnys #iloveny #historicbuildings #boldtcastle #heartisland #touristspots #exploreny #newyorkexplored #scenicnewyork #nyshistory #historicsites #uscastles #travelblogger #travel #vacation #vacay #vacationpics #familytravel #exploredeeper #traveldeeper #alexbay (at Boldt Castle - 1000 Islands, NY) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv6vzkxhQe-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
