Robert appreciates the sight of a youth encased in his own shell, hidden behind shades and earbuds, a true escape artist. On the flip side, Robert finds the act of listening to music with headphones to be a music sin (that one is for you Mat); anything played outside of a tape cassette and record is complete folly.
He’s one step away from continuing on his venture when it occurs to him that this kid looks like one who would know where to get a drink or smoke. He stops a few feet before the kid and lifts a lazy hand to gain his attention.
“Hey kid, you know any place where I can wet my whistle?” Majority of the kids in Maple Bay have a problem with authority minus Craig’s twins (who he thinks are creepier than Mary’s), thus he adds, “don’t worry kid, I won’t rat you out.”
