Origins of Gerald McBoing-Boing
The Dr. Seuss character Gerald McBoing-Boing appeared in only 4 theatrical short films produced by UPA in the 1950s. (listed and linked below)
But he started out on a children's story record, for which his sound-effects shtick was specially tailored by Seuss. You can read the full story of the project at Cartoon Research.
And then there was The Gerald McBoing-Boing Show, produced for TV by UPA in 1956–57, which reran the existing cartoons and introduced new character segments.
Finally, in 1959, Gerald appeared in a crossover episode of the UPA TV series Mister Magoo Show. (linked below) There would be no more Gerald McBoing-Boing animation until 2005 on Cartoon Network.
