As Ipas Board of Directors member Otobo Innocent Ujah points out, the developing world is where Ipas can have the greatest impact on women’s health. In Africa, women’s risk of death from unsafe abortion is particularly high. And in Ujah’s native Nigeria, unsafe abortion is one of the most significant and preventable causes of maternal death—especially among young women. Ujah, himself a young physician, is now pursuing a master’s degree in public health and hoping to improve reproductive health care for women in Nigeria, across Africa, and around the world.
