Unlikely Fang | Tobin & Deirdre
Continued from here.

Deirdre was becoming weary of wandering without success. “Tobin, may we perhaps stop and make a plan on how we’re going to proceed through the forest?”
As she spoke, the ground shook. What’s happening? Could this be one of those earthquakes Grandmother told me about, or a mudslide…or a monster?
The movement pushed her against a tree, though she was uninjured. Her companion was uninjured as far as she could tell, as well. She followed his gaze and gasped.
Before them appeared a creature he could hardly imagine in even the most vivid of his nightmares: it was a insect-like creature, with several hairy legs that stretched out across several feet. It bared one single large eye and a fanged mouth located at its belly, similar to that of a spider. Tobin hardly had any time to retrieve his jaw from the ground when it released a screech that sent a sound wave towards them, causing the earth to tremor once more. Had his footing not been stronger, the gust of wind that had escaped the creature would have easily sent him flying.
“Holy hell,” Tobin managed to mutter before reaching for his bow, adrenaline gushing through his veins as a result of the obvious danger, “looks like we’re going to have to deal with this first, yeah?” He carefully navigated back towards the priest, never turning his back towards the creature that was locked onto them. While he had no idea where to begin on this creature, he knew standing there with his mouth open wouldn’t save his skin.
“I’ve seen some pretty big bugs before, but nothing like this.” He tensed as the creature than began to maneuver towards them. Drawing back his bowstring he readied an arrow, but the shaking ground made it incredibly difficult to aim, and his first shot failed to strike the creature.
