Went on CNA938 yesterday morning to share how the Budget could support and help the arts and sports sectors. Instead of going to the studio, I did a telephone interview as part of safe distancing measures. Later in the day, when announcing the Solidarity Budget, DPM Heng extended the Self-employed Person Income Relief Scheme (SIRS) to automatically include those who also earn a small income from employment work (previously excluded). The qualifying property Annual Value threshold will also be increased from $13,000 to $21,000, thereby including those who live in some condominiums and other private properties. With these enhancements, about 100,000 self-employed persons (including arts and sports freelancers) will automatically be eligible for the scheme, and will receive three payments of $3,000 each, starting from May 2020. NTUC will help administer the application and appeals for SIRS, and support self-employed persons in need.
