Selsera: Arius. Weâve finally arrived. This is the foremost city of Keter Sanctuary, the Floating Sky Island, Ketergia.
Arius: Amazing. . . This is all man-made, right?
Selsera: You always complain that weâre always in the countryside, so I brought you here. Be thankful.
Arius: Thank you very much! (She said it as harshly as always, but maybe this is Masterâs way of being thoughtful. . .)
Selsera: Ketergia is a combination of nine floating islands. Each island regularly moves around, but they never crash into each other.
Arius: Iâm a scientist, but the power to make all these huge islands float in the sky. . . itâs beyond my imagination.
Selsera: I feel the same, as a magician. Well, as expected of the holy kingdom known in ancient times as the United Sanctuary, itâs a grand structure combining the best of science and magic.
Arius: Oh, something flew across the sky just now. Maybe a bird?
Selsera: So youâve seen them. That is a Cloud Knight.
Arius: A Cloud Knight?
Selsera: The Order of Heavenly Knights- that is the Cloud Knights. With their base here in Ketergia, they are a group who was formed to protect Keter Sanctuary from threats both domestic and foreign.
Arius: Ah, the singular form of the Order of Heavenly Knights would be Heavenly Knight, and the singular form of Cloud Knights is just Cloud Knight.
Selsera: It does not matter which of those names you call them by. In addition, their flight powers seem to be tied to their armor.
Arius: Hmm. Thereâs probably some sort of propulsion device attached to it. I wonder what its power source is?
Selsera: What are you talking about, with your propulsion devices and power sources? Itâs obviously flight magic that has been cast on the armor. (This is why scientists are. . .)
Arius: Ah. . . well, you could say that, too. (The relationship between science and magic is hard. . .)
Selsera: Their trademarks are their winged weapons and that ability to fly.
Arius: Whoa, another one flew by! It must be nice, being a Cloud Knight.
Selsera: By the way, it seems there is no limitations to what races can become Cloud Knights. Why donât you try applying, Arius?
Arius: Ah, Iâll have to decline. . . Iâm actually scared of heights.
Selsera: Ho. . . is that so. Then, -!
Arius: Ah- ! Master, stop it! Weâre above the clouds, you know. What am I going to do if I fall- ?!
Selsera: Itâs fine. If you fall, Iâll make you float with the power of magic. Just like clouds.
Selsera: Arius, have you heard of âgallowsballâ?
Arius: Yes. When I was little, I watched matches on the Internet, sometimes.
Selsera: Thatâs unexpected- such an extreme sport.
Arius: My family would get fired up, but it was a little too violent for me. . . ahaha.
Selsera: So you didnât like it, after all. That sounds like you.
Arius: Besides, traveling with Master means that I have barely any connection to the Internet or television. (Weâre always separated from civilization on some mountain, or a faraway sea, or an island, or some ancient ruins. . .)
Selsera: Even so, you must have heard the name of Team âDiabolosâ.
Arius: Yes, the famous Diabolos brothers. The fourth son Matt, third son Steve, second son Richard. . .
Selsera: And the first son, Bruce. By the way, all four are demons. Always raring for a fight, planet Crayâs delinquents.
Arius: It seems like thereâs plenty of wild stories from both in and out of the stadium- like how when one of the opponentâs team members wanted to back out of the game, they chased them to the edge of the continent. . . or how they got into a huge fight outside the stadium and changed the course of a whole river. . .
Selsera: Truly a man (mhmm, mhmm). Although, of course, you cannot play gallowsball with only four people.
Arius: Diabolos boys, girls, officers. . . From players to cheerleaders and coaches, all the way to behind the scenes, there are a lot of people involved, huh? But everyoneâs pretty scary. . .
Selsera: Thatâs because thereâs a rule that you can use firearms as long as itâs an indirect attack. Tackling people, explosions, traps, anything. I quite like it. Itâs a shame I donât get many chances to see it.
Arius: (Iâm so glad Iâm living a life free from gallowsball.)
Selsera: Fufufu. Arius, to think that there would be a familiar ball in this kind of place. Come, Muu-chan! We will play at gallowsball with the staff MacGuffin.
Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress: Cray Lore 001Â âRed Temple of Dawnâ
Selsera: O my apprentice Arius, do you know of the Red Temple of Dawn?
Arius: âRed Temple of Dawnâ ?
Selsera: A temple that lies within a mountain in the heart of the Dragon Empire. Itâs said that the history of the Red Temple of Dawn is as old as humanity itself.
Arius: Wow. . . So does that mean that a dragon priest presides over it? Since itâs in the Dragon Empire.
Selsera: No, the keepers of the shrine are a human priest and women known as the âBlaze Maidensâ.
Arius: I see, there are humans in the Dragon Empire, too. Blaze. . . that must mean the girls perform ceremonies related to fire?
Selsera: Mm. They train at the shrine, too, but the Red Temple of Dawnâs main purpose is to worship and guard something precious that is only found there.
Arius: Something precious that is only found there. . . does that mean some sort of great treasure? Like an idol of a god?
Selsera: An egg.
Arius: An egg?
Selsera: But itâs not just an egg. Itâs a holy dragonâs egg, revered since ancient times. Someday, when that egg hatches, it is said that the world will take back hope and the future.
Arius: That really is something important.
Selsera: Itâs quite treasured. Once a year, during the âFestival of Albaâ, the Blaze Maidens pray for the egg to awaken and dance through the night as an offering. Now that I think about it, I heard a rumor that something strange happened during this yearâs Festival of Alba. . .
Arius: Hmm~ I want to go see it someday, that Red Temple of Dawn.
Selsera: Do you want to go visit now?
Arius: Yes. I want to see the dragonâs egg and the Blaze Maidens!
Selsera: Very well. Well, I can ride on Muu-chanâs back and fly there, but you must walk across countless high mountains, and overcome cliffs that are said to lead to certain death if you fall even once.
Arius: Ehh?! Ah. . . Iâll have to refrain this time around.
Selsera: Is that so. Itâs been a while since Iâve gone, it would have been nice to visit. . .
Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress: Cray Lore 000 âIntroduction: The Magician and Her Apprenticeâ
Seeker of Knowledge, Selsera
A sadistic and selfish magician whose age is unknown.
Has a vast amount of knowledge about the planet Cray.
Adventuring Scientist, Arius
Selseraâs curious and lively apprentice.
Has plenty of scientific knowledge.
Selsera: âKnowledge is a treasure, and words are a sword.â We travel across this planet Cray, and gather shards of lost memory.
Selsera: (Huff. . . thatâs it.)
Arius: -Itâs no time to be acting cool and putting on airs, Lady Selsera! Weâve gotten lost, again!
Selsera: Do you still not understand after traveling together for so long, Arius? Taking the shortest and fastest route to our destination is not a true journey- only movement.
Arius: Ah, is that so. . . Even so, Master, you have a pretty bad sense of direction, donât you? Well, youâre a magician, so I guess your scouting ability is. . . (mumbling)
Selsera: Silence, greenhorn. Arenât your science items just pieces of junk when the battery runs out?
Arius: Master, you promised not to mention that. . .
Selsera: I possess the power of magic, the sageâs staff MacGuffin, and Muu-chan. You are a mere apprentice, on probation, a super-super underling- remember that well.
Arius: Iâm even lower than the staff?! And Moonback* is that fluffy thing around your neck, right?!
(* Translatorâs note: âMuu-chanâ seems to be short for âMoonbackâ.)
Selsera: I wonât forgive you if you make fun of Muu-chan. When Moonback manifests its true form, it matches the strength of a thousand men- itâs the most powerful of beasts. It would swallow the likes of you in one bite.
Arius: Would you please stop setting your beast on your apprentice?
Selsera: Hmph, itâs because you say impudent things. Come, apologize and you will be forgiven.
Arius: . . . I apologize. If you are willing, Lady Selsera, I would like to humbly partake in your teachings once again.
Selsera: Mm, is that it? What happened to the usual? The usual thing?
Arius: Ehh, that again?
Selsera: Raising his masterâs spirits is, too, one of the apprenticeâs most important tasks.
Arius: . . .
Arius: O greatest treasure of the nation of the Dark States, that one who brings to light the memories of this planet from ancient times to now, the singular, peerless, first and last of your kind, unparalleled in history, our great sage, âSeeker of Knowledge, Lady Selseraâ. I beg of you, please bestow the blessings of your wisdom upon me.
Selsera: Very well. You may continue to follow me, O unworthy apprentice. (Ooh, that has a nice ring. . .)

Hello! I have heard some people express interest in getting a summarized version of the Cray Cross Epic novel lore, which has not been officially translated into English. Because I am very fond of Vanguard lore, I took it upon myself to summarize the first part of the novel. This is a SUMMARY, NOT a translation! I am not very good at Japanese, in fact! Also, I am doing this for fun, so if there's interest in more of these, I wouldn't mind... I want more people to experience Cray lore, after all. Please enjoy!
Chapter 1, Episode 1: The Beginning
Three thousand years ago, in the lush nation of Zoo on Planet Cray, lived a young bioroid boy named Rorowa. Bioroids are humanlike, but with the longevity and grace of plants, and bioroids are capable of manipulating plantlife. Slender and unassuming, Rorowa has dark green hair that is decorated with the beautiful leaves and berries of the rowan tree.
Rorowa isnât good at much; his skills with a sword are mediocre, and he lacks self-confidence. As a result, he tends to get swept up in the actions of the people around him. One such person is the bioroid Olivi, who travels across Cray with Rorowa at his side.
Olivi â a large bioroid who looked to be in his mid-twenties in human terms â was the one who found Rorowa, seventeen years ago. Unlike most creatures, like humans or dragons, bioroids have no parents and are born fully-formed from the plant life of Cray. Olivi rudely woke the bioroid boy, who was sleeping peacefully in a cradle of thin leaves, by kicking him.
âSleep time is over! Good morning! Good morning, good morning, good morning!â
The forest around him was withered and dying, the trees naked, and a foul stench of death and decay filled the air. If it had not been for Olivi waking him up, the young bioroid would likely have perished alongside it all.
Because he found the bioroid boy amidst the death of the forest, the only survivor of an unknown catastrophe that wreaked havoc upon the land, Olivi named him after the rowan: a resilient and hardy tree, one that can grow in harsh conditions and survive even being burned seven times.
And just like that, the bioroid youth Rorowaâs tumultuous life began.
â
In the town of Turi, a rural area in the west of the nation Zoo, Olivi overhears some villagers discussing the Burner Ant, a large, fiery insect belonging to a criminal gang within Megacolony. They fear that it is only a matter of time before their wheat fields burn to the ground because of it. Of course, Olivi is unable to stand idly by, and Rorowa finds himself being chased through the wheat fields by the Burner Ant not long after.
Neither he nor Olivi is suited for combat, and they find themselves trapped between a wide, deep irrigation canal and the angry Burner Ant. Olivi mutters something about a âspecial trick,â which Rorowa is deeply apprehensive about, before picking up Rorowa around the waist and hoisting him up. For a moment, Rorowa thinks that Olivi is going to throw him across the canal, to safety, but, to Rorowaâs dismay, Olivi hurls Rorowa like a spear⌠at Burner Ant.
Rorowa smashes into Burner Ant with his head, knocking the monster unconscious and probably giving Rorowa a concussion. This is the beginning of their problems.
Part of Burner Ant, still on fire, touches Rorowaâs foot unexpectedly. In his panic, Rorowa kicks it off of himâ
âand ignites the entire field of dry wheat.
â
It takes several hours to extinguish the fire, and by then, the crop is totally destroyed. Rorowa apologizes profusely to a kindly turnip dryad, Heave-Ho Turnip, while Olivi unsuccessfully tries to make small talk. Because Rorowa and Olivi have very little money between the two of them, there is no way for them to pay the dryad back for the lost wheat. Olivi suggests selling his pendant, a black stone resembling an olive with fine gold grains embedded in it, but Heave-Ho Turnip dismisses it as a dirty necklace.
In exchange for allowing the two to stay at his inn, Heave-Ho Turnip points out deep ruts along the road and fields. There is apparently someone destroying the roads and crops, and Heave-Ho Turnip wants the two bioroids to find and punish them.
â
As a bioroid, Rorowa feels an almost physical pain at the thought of the wheat field burning down. Unable to sleep, he leaves Heave-Ho Turnipâs inn late at night, wandering out into the dark. The two moons in the sky of Cray are new moons, and there is very little natural light as a result. The fields are black ash, and he kneels down in the middle of it, summoning his innate power as a bioroid to bless the earth and bring life back to the fields. As he pours his power into the ground, small buds sprout up across the field, filling Rorowa with hope.
But this hope is short-lived.
As the grain is almost set, it turns black, as if rotting from the roots, then white-gray, and finally, it withers. Rorowa can remember the day of his âbirthâ; the ashen plantlife and ashy fields he sees now are just like they were when he woke into this world.
And then he hears the source of the destruction behind him.
A horrible creature emitting a sound so terrifying it is as if youâre being dragged by the feet into a deep abyss, dragging itself slowly across the ground. Rorowa can make out a series of blood-red eyes blinking through the darkness. From the dragging sound, he knows it must be a long creature. And as it opens its red-black calyx*, it laughs.
The creature is so terrifying that Rorowa cannot move. He knows he could never compete with it, he could never outrun it. And through his horror, he hears a familiar voice.
Hey Rorowa, I told you not to go out at night without me.
And Rorowaâs memory ends there.
â
What pulls Rorowa from his slumber is the sound of someone digging in the soil. Rorowa dimly realizes that he is in the dirt, judging by the smell of the ground surrounding him. Finally, the dirt in his face is shoveled away, and a light shines in his face.
Once he adjusts his gaze, he sees a girl holding a lantern and a shovel. She seems to be human, about Rorowaâs age (seventeen or eighteen), with long brown hair tied high and a determined gaze in her eyes.
Without thinking about what it must look like to find a body buried underground that is suddenly able to move, Rorowa reaches his arm up toward her. Of course, she mistook him for a zombie, and with a barely muffled scream, swings her shovel down at Rorowa, and takes off his left arm before he can protest.
It doesnât hurt; in fact, the arm is shriveled at the shoulder anyway, and with the plant powers he possesses as a bioroid, he will be able to regenerate it. But it takes himâand the girlâa few minutes to regain their composure. The first thing Rorowa asks her as he is safely dug up is whether she makes a hobby of graverobbing. She answers evasively and wonders why there was even a person in the ground there, anyway.
Now that he is out of the ground, Rorowa can see that he is at the base of a massive tree, with roots lifted out of the ground and spread out across the ground. The trunk is thick, so it must be an ancient tree. His head hurts as he tries to remember what happened before losing consciousness. All he can remember is eating dinner and going to sleep⌠and he doesnât know where Olivi is.
As he is thinking, a small dragon appears from behind the girl. He is the same color as the flame-colored outfit the girl wears, and he has two horns on his head, with a flame burning on his tail. The girl looks at Rorowa while nuzzling the dragonâs little face and introduces herself as Radylina, a Dragritter from the Dragon Empire, and the young dragon is Momokke, a Kagero dragon. Rorowa knows that the Dragritters are knights of the Dragon Empire who ride their dragon partners through the sky, much like the legendary Dragon Knight, Nehalem. But this dragon is so small and cute, a thought that Rorowa voices out loud. At Radylinaâs indignant expression, Rorowa changes the conversation and introduces himself.
âAh, Iâm Rorowa.â
âWhy were you buried there?â
âThatâs what Iâm trying to figure outâŚâ
âMaybe youâre a very active sleepwalker, and just walked into the Sanctuary and buried yourself in the ground.â
âSanctuary?â
The tree, she points out, is the World Tree, and the Sanctuary is part of the city that has sprung up around it. Protected by shrine maidens, the World Tree causes forests to flourish and gives great life to the region. Rorowa had seen it before, from a distance, in his travels with Olivi, but he doesnât quite know how he traveled this far while unconscious.
He asks her which part of Zoo they were in â east or west? She frowns at him.
âZoo? This is Stoichea. Zoo disappeared three thousand years ago.â
Three thousand is such an enormous number to Rorowa that it feels like a bizarre joke. Thereâs no way an entire nation the size of Zoo could just disappear. But before he can question her further, they hear voices coming from a nearby building.
âWhoâs there?â
Several bioroids carrying lanterns in their hands approach them. Because this is a sanctuary, they are probably the security. With a click of her tongue, Radylina grabs something off the ground and hurls it at one of the guards. Her aim is accurate, and her arms are strong, so when one of the guards is struck, they fall unconscious. But Rorowa canât really find it in him to be terribly impressed, because the thing she threw wasâ
âMy arm!â
âRorowaâs severed arm.
Radylina ditches her shovel and lantern and takes off. Rorowa follows her; when she asks why, annoyed, he has no idea, other than that theyâre being chased and that it seems like heâs safer with an angry girl like her around. The voices of the guards chasing them echo in the air. Rorowa thinks he could probably start crying at any moment.
So begins Rorowaâs adventure in the world, three thousand years later.
Note: a calyx is part of a flower, "typically forming a whorl that encloses the petals and forms a protective layer around a flower in bud." This indicates that the creature that attacked Rorowa was some kind of monstrous plant with multiple parts to it.
I was gonna post Zeruiahâs Omni stats and kit but I got really lazy with it, so hereâs her Omni Lore instead, which is a continuation of her 7* lore. Itâs long, so...just look under the cut if you wanna read the lore.
âThe life of mortals is like grass - they flourish like a flower of the field. As the decades became centuries, Zeruiah grew to realize how fleeting human life was. She became colder and disillusioned with forming relationships with humans. She turned her attention away from the petty politics of the warring mortal civilizations, and focused on the scholarly pursuit of otherworldly artifacts and space-time anomalies. The mystical Vale in the North adopted isolationism, with ancient wards and Fae illusion magic keeping out all but the most determined and magically adept intruders. Between meditations within the heart of the majestic World Tree, Zeruiah studied and observed other planes of existence as well as the intricacies of dimensional Stargates. It was through this that Zeruiah discovered the otherworldly deity called Juno-Seto. Their worlds connected through extraordinary circumstances, and their fateful encounter led to a series of historical events culminating in the cataclysmic crisis known as the Void Rendering. For the first time in a thousand years, Zeruiah was overwhelmed by conflicting emotions - her reluctance to expose the Vale and her people to peril, her guilt for indirectly endangering her world, her concern for Juno-Seto, and her uncertainty of victory over the Voidborn. Nevertheless, the sudden memory of the human girl she had saved long ago sparked her resolve, and Zeruiah marched her Fae to war. After a long campaign, countless hard-fought victories, and with the mortal civilizations allied, Zeruiah finally drove the invaders back into the Void. The turning point was without a doubt Juno-Seto's tremendous sacrifice of relinquishing her own divinity to seal Ensa-Taya. Even as the celebrations of victory erupted all across the world, news and rumors of Zeruiah's aid and Juno-Seto's sacrifice spread like wildfire, inspiring many pilgrimages to the towering Crystalline Spire for people to pay their respects. As for Zeruiah, she re-opened a portion of the Vale that eventually became the greatest center of Research and Academics in the world. To this day, her legendary feats during the Void Sundering and beyond are still sung in ballads, with one particularly interesting account from a renowned poet describing how the meadows around the World Tree bloomed pale pink and lavender iris fields sprung from the earth overnight.â
