I mean we do have Suikoden, arenât those by Koei too?
I donât know much about Suikoden but I did look at the one Strategy game they did based on Journey to the West (Saiyuki: Journey West in English) and it looks alright, the designs are pretty neat all things considered (I like Sunâs design, I think itâs neat that Tripitaka can be a boy or a girl, the addition of lady characters is neat and that one is a dryad is actually really interesting, and the conflation of the White Dragon Horse with the Dragon Girl actually goes a long way to make that work) but Iâm not a huge fan of strategy games. (I might still emulate it though?)
I dunno, I think Musou games are fun, and genuinely thereâs so much âFight a big guy and his Massive Demon Armyâ in Journey to the West that it feels like a waste not to use one of the few game genres built to make the Fighting The Army part actually fun and not a side concern. And itâs weird that the genre hasnât been used for it

i mean, at least partially? though i guess i expected them to portray trish as less of an equal match to jeanne if that was the whole case - i, knowing nothing about DmC, assumed that because she wasnât dante/vergil/nero(/v?) she wasnât on their power level, but a quick search is telling me sheâs about as strong (if without their crazy regen)
like i expect at least most of it (at least, on a conscious level) is that dante is a more established character from a more established brand/franchise - bayonetta is much more recent and thus has less nostalgia value (and game power creep) associated with her
(i mean granted like. bayonettaâs power creep starts in chapter 2 of game 1 at like 60 mph and refused to stop for any reason, so that REALLY shouldnât be an excuse, but it still feels like what might have been part of it)
while weâre talking Misogyny, i also wish theyâd found a more interesting way to have jeanne and trish be catty. âthat color looks terrible on you!â really? did you ask any girl what her insult of choice would have been? like, any at all?
