Will this year be number 20?
This year is a big year for Sir Alex, having lost out to Man City in the cruelest of circumstances last season, he will be determined to get the revenge he deserves.
Fergie's intent was there from the off, buying 2 young prospects in the early stages of the transfer window stating that more shall follow. However, since then despite his efforts. and the unpresent backing of the blood syphoning owners "The Glazers" and subsequent floating of the club on the stock market, the chequebook has remained closed. Although he has acknowledged the weakness of our midfield, and at times our defence, he still seems determined to buy more attacking players, evident in signings such as Kagawa and Powell. Whilst being linked with big names such as Van Persie and Lucas Moura he still seems ignorant of our more pressing issues; Ferdinand - the rock at the base of the United defence for many years - is now ageing and his ability seems to be fading away quicker than Arsenal fans' hopes of ever winning a trophy again. Evra, in his time a top class player, now seems a pedestrian. The young lads; Jones, Smalling, Evans, Rafael, Cleverly, Anderson, Welbeck and Young have quality but inconsistency remains.
This season is make or break for United some might say. Excluding last year's hollow Community Shield victory, United didn't win a single trophy. A particular low point was the spectacular crashing out of both the Champions League at the group stage and more embarrassingly the Europa Cup.
Having said all this it is still believed that Fergie is the one and only man to take United to the 20th title, beating the noisy neighbours in the process. Sir Alex has the backing of the most pessimistic fans to put United back on the top where they belong.
