What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary?
I read the book first and kind of regret it. I like the movie, but a ton of the changes they made bother me a lot, I know the movie was too long but a lot of the things they opted not to include are either hilarious (emperor comatose my beloved 🤣) or pretty important to the over all message and impacting things that happen later in the book/ movie (I'm specifically talking about the fishing scene for those who have not watched the movie or read the book)
Secondarily G/T Project hail Mary and Bloody Mary, thoughts? I'm obsessed and while so many talented people have written/ drawn about it the concept has me in a choke hold and won't give up🤣
Uneven!! It’s so nice to see you!
How have you been, how’s the family? I hope you have time to stay and chat because you have activated my trap card my dear friend.
First off I’m so glad you enjoyed Project Hail Mary!! Holy fruit I was blown away by both the movie and the book. They are both phenomenal pieces of media, and it does currently have me in a chokehold. And thank goodness it seems to have everyone else in one or else I would be sobbing.
I will say, I am so glad I watched the movie first and then read the book. This is one of the few cases where it was incredible to go in completely blind, and to be shown a Space Movie featuring dudes being idiots.
I feel like that’s what they did right! The movie is stunning, the puppeteering is immaculate, and holy fruit did you notice on the EVA’s where there’s no sound until Grace spoke or when him hitting the side of the ship would cause vibrations and only then translate into sound oh they did such a good job!!
But I do 100% see what you mean by there were key moments I later learned about reading the book where I put a hand on my chin and thought…well Rocky carried the mission in the movie. They still put a lot of time and effort into putting the big pieces of science information that the book had into the movie so we understand why you can’t see the petrova light with the naked eye, how they determined why and how they needed to breed the taumoeba to survive Venus’ (and Threeworld), as well as put a lot of weight of how incompatible Grace and Rocky’s atmosphere’s are.
But you’re right on how much they left out! Like when they’re being science buds and asking each other about biology, how their planet’s ecosystems work, and my utmost favorite part of the book when Grace has to really find Rocky in the dead of space without anything but him and his wits to solve the problem oh it’s so good! The book just oozes with personality, and it did a fantastic job at explaining the science in depth so I didn’t get left behind (which Andy Weird is a genius making Grace a middle school teacher so it makes sense why he explains his thoughts because he’s constantly thinking about how to best explain these concepts in a classroom when he’s asked tons of questions) the book really had it all!
But I enjoyed both. The movie for it being much more character interaction driven. The book for getting into the nitty gritty and genuinely teaching people about science and how genuinely cool it is. They really are a match made in heaven.
But who would’ve thought Iron Lung would come in with the steel chair- sorry, wrong analogy.
But who knew Iron Lung would punch us right in the face like Markiplier did to promote his hit podcast Distractable and make BloodyMary the peak of all media.
Who was the genius who put Simon with the Hail Mary?! Who is the person I owe my life two?! Do they and everyone else who agreed BloodyMary is The Greatest Thing since sliced bread know how much I adore them?!?!
I do, I really do. Uneven, I am in the same boat where I need more content of the three (especially with g/t) even when several people are making art every single day. I need more!!
The worst part…I’m a g/t writer who could add to the growing collection of fics….
Wait I /am/ a g/t writer! Hold on, BRB-!
