The girl (?) that clacks inside on purple high heels spots him at first sight, prompting the sword to hastily pull his hooded cloak over his eyes. By the time he's covered his eyes, she's already settled down to sit right next to him.

Yamanbagiri freezes on the spot. Then he braves a peek through his peripheal vision at the stranger beside him, and gets an eye-ful of cheerful yellow lights on the black expanse that make up her face and scoots to the side in a hurry, too startled to do anything but react.

That was rude.

"I'm sorry," he apologizes in a rush.

"I didn't want to take up your space, so I moved out of the way."

The figure—wait, did she have four hands?—only smiles impossibly wide and leans over, ready to speak.

Yamanbagiri Kunihiro can't take another second of this. He's the inheritor of the legend that a blade slew the mountain witch, yet what terrifies him more in this moment is the prospect of unsolicited conversation. Before the bus starts moving, the sword's already turned to push down a window and jump right out.

Safe.

Everything's worked out perfectly. She snuck past her dad, the master key worked on the front doors, and the murder drones aren't in their corpse spire right now. Uzi just needs to find the last component to complete her sick-as-hell railgun, and she'll finally have a way to stick it to those stupid death robots. And then everyone in Outpost 3 will say they're sorry for ever bullying her, neglecting her, or just generally not being subservient to how cool she is. Finally, Uzi Doorman is gonna get what she deserves.

There's a thin layer of snow coating the bottom floor of the spire, a pale blanket covering countless worker drone corpses. Uzi picks through a worker's empty chest cavity, because the item she needs is one of their inner components, a power core that her dad won't give her because he said they need it to make more drones. Well, what's more important: a single hypothetical drone, or a really cool gun? It's not even a question.

A flash of green catches her eye, and Uzi jogs over. Lucky for her, the murder drones never realized how useful these parts can be, and she laughs in triumph as she pulls a power core from the upper half of a body.

"Frickin' nice," she hums, sliding the part into the empty slot on her gun. Mission complete, but now she needs to get the hell out of here before the disassembly drones return from their hunt and tear her limb from limb. Wait, why did she phrase it like that? Now she's got a really scary mental image to repress.

She turns and finds someone else watching her. She doesn't know them. Does she? When she squints, trying to figure out if she knows them, her body wracks with pain. Her head hurts, like something's growing in her CPU and is about to crack her casing open. Her HUD spits up flashing warnings that she can't read. Something isn't right.
