✴️Once swallowed alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream via small blood vessels in the walls of the stomach and small intestine. Within minutes of drinking alcohol it travels from the stomach to the brain , where it quickly produces its effects, slowing the action of nerve cells. Approximately 20% of alcohol is absorbed through the stomach and rest 80% is absorbed through the small intestine. Alcohol cannot be stored ,it is carried by the bloodstream to the liver which eliminate the alcohol from the blood where it is converted to a non-toxic substance. The liver can only metabolise a certain amount at a time, leaving the excess circulating throughout the body. Thus the intensity of the effect on the body is directly related to the amount consumed. ✴️Alcohol consumption generates oxidative stress and inflammation and the potential to disrupt endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis. The endoplasmic reticulum is an organelle that folds proteins and ships them around the cell. ✴️Alcohol inhibits the breakdown of nutrients into usable molecules by decreasing secretion of digestive enzymes from the pancreas. It impairs nutrient absorption by damaging the cells lining the stomach and intestines and disabling transport of some nutrients into the blood. In addition, nutritional deficiencies themselves may lead to further absorption problems. Even if nutrients are digested and absorbed, alcohol can prevent them from being fully utilized by altering their transport, storage, and excretion. Decreased liver stores of vitamins such as vitamin A and increased excretion of nutrients such as fat, indicate impaired utilization of nutrients by alcoholics. ✴️ Drinking too much over time can cause chronic physical and mental health issues. Heavy drinking can cause or contribute to liver damage, cardiovascular disease, and multiple types of cancer. . . . . #understandingalcohol#alcohol #drinking#emptycalories #vitamindeficiency #mineraldeficiency #liverdamage#fatdeposits #takecareofyourself #portioncontrol #takecareofyourbody #healthyliving #healthyhabits #healthyhabitsforlife (at Andheri West) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFrOATqJF9S/?igshid=yicshjqy6604
