It was quiet on the apartment balcony. No, no quiet, but the white noise of the city wasn’t irritating, it was oddly comforting. You enjoyed listening to the Detroit city on sleepless nights like this.

“Hey,” a voice whispered behind you as a pair of arms gently wrapped around your waist. You smiled when the figure dipped their head down, planting kisses on your shoulder.

“Hey Ru.” Rupert smiled softly at your nickname. You spun yourself around to face him, frowning slightly when you met his sad gaze. Reaching up to caress his face, you kissed his nose gently. “I’m right here hon.” You took one of his hands from your waist, lacing your fingers together and holding them up.

“I know, I just,” Rupert bit his lip, stopping himself from continuing whatever thought passed his mind. But letting out an artificial breath, he met your gaze. “The bad place again.” A small, sad smile matched his quiet tone.

The android closed his eyes when your arms wrapped around his neck, nuzzling your face into his shoulder. “C’mon.” You softly led him back to the bed where you should’ve been, Laying down next to Rupert’s wiry frame, you began combing your fingers through his messy hair, smiling when he already seemed to relax under your touch. “Ru?”

“Hmm?”

“I love you, you know that, right?”

Rupert rested a hand on your cheek, leaning over to brush his nose against yours. “I do, and I love you too, Feather.” A moment passed before he spoke again.

“Good night, (y/n).”
